Chapter 48: The Danger of Loopholes

"Th-that's not possible." I couldn't have been made with magic. That would mean I wasn't real, wouldn't it?

"It's only a theory, but it fits. Your magic gravitates toward things that aren't considered good."

I crossed my arms over my stomach and sank onto the library's chair. "So you're saying I'm evil?"

"No." He squatted next to me. "I'm saying it explains why you can do complex spells that might be considered gray or black magic, but simple magic eludes you."

"So it's my power that's evil, not me." I rubbed my hands on my thighs. "Okay, how do I get rid of it then?"

He let out a sigh that feathered across my arm. "You can't. Separating you from your power will kill you."

My mouth opened, but nothing came out. Reed reached out and took my hand. His warmth drew me to him. His ice-blue eyes stared at me and my pulse throbbed in my ears. I licked my lips, leaning forward. His eyes half-closed like he was going to kiss me. My stomach did little flips of joy.
