Days had passed, and the time had finally arrived.
Azrid wore a black vest and pants with six pockets, and he also had a small bag hanging on his waist. He brought all the remaining Super Nutrients with him and had a watch that could display all the official maps. He also had a pair of earphones that could facilitate communication.
He had prepared himself with weapons, healing liquids, and gadgets to face any possible situation. He was quite nervous since it was his first time.
"Did you prepare everything?" Jaden asked.
"Yes, father. I've researched various things," Azrid replied, nodding.
"Don't forget to contact us," Milane reminded him.
"I won't," Azrid assured her. He looked down and saw his little brother fidgeting in the corner.
"I'm sorry, Razmo. I hope that you will grow stronger even without my help," Azrid gently said as he patted his little brother's head.
"Yes, brother. I will get stronger and follow you," Razmo replied, smiling and clenching both of his fists.
Azrid waved his hand before turning around and hopping into a sphere-shaped vehicle the size of a normal bus, called an Aeroship. The vehicle moved and burst into the sky instantly.
Swoosh!
The Aeroship was a birthday gift from his parents, and it was fast and agile, although it couldn't go into outer space. It also had limited functions. Azrid was a noble's son for a reason.
After an hour of travel, Azrid arrived at the port of a huge city called Erinbe. It was one of the largest cities on Planet Red Tree, the name of the planet he was living on.
Azrid parked his Aeroship before he went inside a building. The guards checked his belongings and he explained that he was here to undergo the trial of the Adventurer Guild. He also showed them his ID and application form on his phone. Actually, showing his ID was enough since they recognized his last name as one of the Planet Nobles of Deisin. He had some authority.
After that, Azrid went outside and looked around the bustling city. Erinbe city was larger than the territory of his parents, and it also had a population of more than three million people.
With one look, Azrid could see the difference between Erinbe and Brimfield territory. His parents loved rural areas, so they didn't develop it using too many technologies. The technology there could only help with the basic needs of people.
But Erinbe was entirely different. Azrid could see hundreds of buildings in the area, and each one had approximately one hundred floors. The tallest building was situated in the center of the city, and it was connected to the space station through a space elevator. There was some sort of field above the city that was flickering every second; it was to prevent people from using their ships to fly above the city. There were designated routes for flying vehicles, and it was for the safety of the masses. If an accident occurred, the ship would certainly crash into one of the buildings here, and it would cost numerous casualties.
Azrid couldn't help but be amazed by the technological advancements of Erinbe. He walked around the city, taking in the sights and sounds, and eventually found himself in front of the Adventurer Guild.
The Adventurer Guild was a huge building that looked like a fortress. It had a big gate with two guards standing in front of it. Azrid approached them and showed his ID and application form once again.
"Welcome, Mr. Azrid. We have been expecting you," one of the guards said, opening the gate for him.
Azrid walked inside the building and saw a big hall with numerous people in it. He walked towards the reception desk and showed his ID and application form once again. The receptionist checked his documents and nodded.
"Everything is in order. Please wait for your turn to take the trial," the receptionist said, handing him a small booklet with information about the Adventurer Guild and the trial.
Azrid nodded and found a seat to wait. He opened the booklet and read through it, making sure he knew everything about the trial. He was determined to pass it and become an adventurer.
While waiting, Azrid observed the people around him. They were adventurers. Compared to him, the people here were truly well-equipped. There were people wearing things he could only see in sci-fi video games: full body armor, huge, terrifying guns, and vicious-looking swords.
"Damn, they're fully set. My preparation is nothing compared to theirs," Azrid thought to himself. He could also sense a kind of aura emanating from them.
Then, he noticed that the staff members were running back and forth, and even veteran adventurers looked serious.
"Something must have happened," he muttered to himself.
The receptionist approached him once again.
With a professional smile plastered on her face, she faced Azrid one more time. She slowly opened her mouth and said, "Mr. Azrid, go behind the building and you will find a wide area there for new recruits. Then, you have to enter room 143."
"I see... Thank you." Azrid thanked the receptionist before he turned around and followed her instructions.
He went behind the main building of the guild, and the wide area she had mentioned turned out to be the arena. "It should be here," he thought.
Azrid walked around until he found room 143. He opened the door, only to find a table and a chair. There was no one there.
"I'll wait here," he muttered to himself as he closed the door and sat on the vacant chair. Azrid looked at his profile and was a little bit satisfied. He had finally increased the rank of his Strength, Agility, and Defense attributes with his last-ditch effort before he departed from his house.
Name: Azrid Brimfield
Status: Tier 1
Strength: I- » I
Agility: I » I+
Defense: I » I+
Ether: I-
"I hope it's enough to pass the trial," he thought to himself as he waited patiently.
His previous training was just preparation. The real training would take place at the Adventurer Guild.
Azrid was excited about his future. He was sure that he could become stronger with his two abilities. It was different from his past life where he would have been an ordinary worker for a company.
After waiting for a while, a person entered the door. He was a middle-aged man wearing formal attire, and a name tag on his right chest read Carmon Edilon.
Azrid stood up and greeted the man politely.
Carmon smiled and said, "You're the one who wanted to join the Adventurer Guild, right?"
"Yes, sir," Azrid nodded.
"You must understand the risks and burdens of being an adventurer. First, you must pass the trial," Carmon said.
"Yes, sir."
"The Adventurer Guild only has one trial. If you pass it, then you are eligible to join our ranks. You may use any gadgets that you have. Are you sure that you still want to take the trial? I think that you haven't even attended Military Service," Carmon said.
"I understand," Azrid replied, fully aware of the risks of being an adventurer. They could die at any moment when facing demon beasts beyond their abilities.
"Fine, then follow me. We'll take the space elevator. Wait for me here," Carmon said, standing up and quickly leaving the room.
Azrid did nothing and watched as Carmon closed the door.
Since he had nothing to do, he called his family first and told them that he was on his way to take the Adventurer Guild's trial. Milane and Jaden warned him not to underestimate it, even though it was only a trial.
After that, he called Naoya and Sisi and told them the same thing. The two cheered him on and said that they had their own training regime too. They would attend military service at the same time as him.
"Is it okay?" Azrid asked, glancing at Sisi's hologram. "You're an engineer. Is it fine to attend military service before finishing your school year?"
"It's okay, I can handle it. Do you not trust me? I'm a genius who won the amateur tournament," Sisi laughed as she flexed her muscles.
"If you say so..." Azrid said.
After a few minutes, the door opened and a woman with a stern look entered the room. She had short hair and was wearing a white blouse with black pants.
"Mr. Azrid, I presume?" She asked without any hint of friendliness.
"Yes, that's me." Azrid stood up and greeted her with a polite nod.
"Good. My name is Liyana, and I am Carmon's assistant. Follow me." Liyana turned around and walked out of the room, expecting Azrid to follow.
Azrid hurriedly gathered his things and followed Liyana out of the room. He couldn't help but feel nervous as he had no idea what to expect from the trial. All he knew was that he had to pass it if he wanted to become an official adventurer. He saw Carmon waiting out of the room.
He noticed that there were other people behind Carmon, aside from him.
"Follow me, we'll go to the trial area," Carmon said before he began walking.
Azrid followed, silently counting the people following Carmon. There were twelve in total, including him. He guessed that these people also wanted to join the Adventurer Guild.
Soon, they arrived at the space elevator at the center of the city. On their way, Carmon explained the trial to them.
"The arena is for adventurers of the Guild. You can't use it since you aren't a member yet, so we'll use a place on the space station. Have you heard of the sanctuary? It's a place where we keep and study various demon beasts that we capture."
Carmon glanced at them and chuckled.
"Some of you must be wondering why there are only twelve of you, right? It's simple: you're the only Tier 1 applicants that are joining the Guild today. Tier 2 and above are exempt from the trial since they possess strength far greater than yours. But don't worry, all people who join the Guild will start at the lowest rank, regardless of their power level. The only difference is that those with higher power levels can complete missions more quickly and attain a higher rank."
There is no death rate in the trial since the judges will save applicants in critical situations. If a judge moves to save an applicant, it means that the applicant has already failed the trial.
Soon, the group arrived at the station at the top of the space elevator. They were in outer space. Azrid and the rest of the applicants didn't have time to enjoy the view as Carmon brought them into the sanctuary, a place where they gathered and studied demon beasts in Planet Red Tree.
It was inside a solid dome to prevent demon beasts from escaping. They had installed various guns and cannons on each corner of the place. The whole area was an entire ecosystem, complete with mountains, trees, and a river so that the demon beasts could live for a long time.
Carmon brought them inside and explained the trial to them.
"The trial will last for thirty minutes. Each one of you has to eliminate three demon beasts. Once you finish it, you will be able to pass the trial. Don't worry, although there are numerous demon beasts here, the highest level is only Tier 2."
"Are we allowed to use all kinds of weapons, sir?" one of the applicants asked.
"Yes, you can use anything here. You can even use a warframe or power suit if you have one," Carmon answered.
The applicants were shocked as they glanced at each other. Warframe and power suits were basically a cheat that would guarantee them to pass, but none of them had it.
The market price of a warframe or power suit was two billion credits. Even a noble like Azrid didn't possess that kind of money. Even if he sold all the assets of his family, the maximum credit he could get was probably five hundred million. It couldn't be compared to the Super Nutrients that he received from Sisi.
"Well, even if you have a warframe, it's not easy to use it. It still depends on your talent," Carmon smiled. He then clapped and said, "Okay, we'll start the trial. Just kill three demon beasts and you will pass."
The other applicants were nervous, but Azrid was a little bit excited. He wanted to test his strength and he had brought a few things that could help him in dangerous situations. He had bombs, flashes, and weapons on him.
