Twenty-one

Rriel's point of view

I swim back and forth in my room. I feel so frustrated. Why would Opal not just come here already? She seems so scared of my world, what if she thinks this is for the better?

I hear a knock at the door. I roll my eyes.

"Come in Dad," I yell. He has been harping at me to show Emmy some compassion.

"Emmy is in the ballroom. We need to all talk," he tells me.

"About?"

"Rriel, you may not love Emmy like you do, Opal, but you two were great friends."

I frown. He is right.

I swim towards the door. He smiles, realizing he won the argument before it even started.

In the hallway, we swim side by side. It was pretty silent, but that was okay. It gave me time to think about how I will handle this problem. I do love Emmy. She's my best friend. I was so blinded by anger, I forgot all about that.

I move into the ballroom. Emmy is crying, and it hurts my soul. I handle this all wrong.

"Emmy, you had no business destroying my property."
