Chapter 7 I Can\'t Give Up

"Dr. Scott." Sandy looked at the falling numbers on the monitor screen and said in a low and urgent tone, "His blood pressure is dropping below normal levels, and his heart rate is currently at 23 beats per minute. If the blood continues to flow like this, this patient..."

"Sandy, shut up! I know!" Eva panicked and tried to stop the bleeding with a cotton swab, only to have the blood gush out uncontrollably.

Initially, she did not think that this operation was difficult for her. In her opinion, she was skilled enough to perform it. Therefore, she ignored Selena's warning and decided to perform the operation without proper authorization, only to have things go wrong now.

Not only did she violate hospital rules, she even led to a medical accident.

To make matters worse, the patient was a soldier.

What would she do if she really caused him to die?

Eva's hand trembled, unable to even properly swab the injury and attempt to stop the bleeding.

Sandy narrowed her eyes, anxious at Eva's actions, "Eva, Dr. Quartley did not allow you to perform an operation because you're inexperienced, but you just pushed forward with it stubbornly! Look, what do you plan to do now? The patient's condition is getting more critical, so as a doctor, why are you panicking? Do something!"

"I... I..." Eva stammered, dread creeping into her voice as she muttered, "I, I don't know? What should I do next?"

"You!" Sandy really wanted to slap her awake.

Eva was a doctor. If she did not know what to do, then what could a nurse like Sandy do?

Eva put down the surgical tools in her hands and tried performing some basic first aid, but the patient's condition was worsening.

"Eva, what else can you do apart from not knowing what to do?"

"I..."

Sandy glared at Eva angrily and rushed to the first operating theater in a hurry.

"Dr. Quartley!"

"What's wrong?" Selena was focused intently on the patient, sweat dripping from her forehead. However, this did not affect her concentration.

"Dr. Scott performed the second operation on her own. Halfway through the operation, the patient's liver suddenly started bleeding profusely. Currently, the patient's in a coma and none of his vitals look good."

Selena suddenly paused, speeding up her movements a second later as she started giving Sandy orders.

"Sandy, arrange a blood transfusion for the patient first. I will be there in three minutes."

"Dr. Scott, The patient is an MNSSU blood type A, we don't have such blood in our blood banks..." Sandy's voice was hoarse as she gritted her teeth, "As far as I know, you are the only person in this hospital with this blood type."

Selena bit her lips, her fingers tightening around the surgical tools. There was a flash of stubbornness in her almond-colored eyes as she repeated herself, "Sandy, I will be there in three minutes. Now, go and set up the blood transfusion equipment. As soon as I am there, start the blood transfusion."

"But Dr. Quartley.."

"Go, now!"

With that, she no longer responded to Sandy and continued operating on her current patient.

She did not expect Eva to ignore her instructions and operate on the patient without authorisation. From what she had seen, the patient's liver was indeed ruptured, but it wasn't life threatening. The true reason for her labelling of the patient as in a critical condition was because there was a benign tumour in the hepatic vessels. Eva must have accidentally sliced open the benign tumour, leading to major blood loss.

The soldier's life...

She could not simply give up like this!

Selena squinted her eyes and sped up, her movements swift yet accurate.
