~ ZARA ~
"I'm coming with you."
David's eyes shadowed. "No, Zara. You can't. You absolutely can't." There wasn't an ounce of uncertainty in his tone. He'd gone… cold.
I stared at him, horrified.
"David… what's going on? What aren't you telling me?"
"It's not that I'm hiding secrets, Zara. It's that… I don't know who to trust."
"Trust me!"
"Because you say so?" He hissed, suddenly venomous in a way I'd never seen him before. "Because you, the self-admitted daughter of the King of the Physicists tells me I should?!"
"David, I'm not just his daughter, I'm your wife. I love you—"
"And you lied to me."
"I didn't know!"
"So you say—but how do I know? Tell me, Zara?! How can I know?"
He'd taken me by the arms and leaned in, his eyes blazing and teeth gritted. He was frantic, pleading. And I saw his fear then. His utter terror.
