Putting down the things she carried with her on a small table near the hospital bed. She gave Kimberly a good look as she inched closer to her, her face turning to a worried expression as she looked at her in that state. Sitting on a side of the bed facing her as she quickly asked.
"Kim, I came as soon as I heard. What happened to you? How are you feeling? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Kimberly did not speak, she stayed quiet for a moment and her gaze turned icy as she looked at Michelle. She stared at her without moving or saying anything, as if in a trance. Her expression turning grave with each passing moment. Now that she had seen her again, the urge to squeeze her to death was unbearable. She was now Kimberly Hills, Michelle's goddaughter and she couldn't act rashly to avoid suspicions.
" Kim... " Michelle was slightly shocked to see the look in Kimberly's eyes and she shuddered.
" you aren't saying anything Kim, are you alright?"
Looking at her fake concerns, Helena felt a burst of sneer in her heart. What a master actress she was!
She scolded herself for being such a selfish mother to Kimberly. Because she was not much close to her daughter as she was a workaholic businesswoman. She rarely spent time with her daughter, thus she was always accompanied by Michelle and her daughter, who was no other than Kiara her daughter's best friend.
"I'm fine." Said Kimberly as she drew her sight away from Michelle concealing the rage of fury that filled her heart calmly as possible.
Meanwhile...
Michelle frowned, she could swore she'd seen her goddaughter's eyes turn cold with a glint of disgust and indifference in them.
Why did Kimberly seem different today? Or was she seeing things?
Michelle wondered. Whenever she visited, Kimberly would always look at her with happiness and admiration in her eyes. But today, she was looking at her as if she couldn't wait for her to leave her sight. Her sudden change startled her.
"You know..., you shouldn't have come by. I know you must have left something important to be here Ma." She said as she lowered her eyes, hiding her anger. But she what she didn't know was that the last word she said left Michelle stunned.
Ma? What happened to Auntie she use to call her before? What's more, her goddaughter's actions today were completely different from her timid but cheeky attitude towards her.
Michelle's expression staid a little with her gaze focused on the teenager in front of her. Was her change because of the recent unfortunate events that happened to her? Her dear mother died not more than a day to her birthday and she was involved in a ghastly accident.... maybe... just maybe...
Michelle tried to reason. She just wasn't sure why Kimberly was acting that way. She can't possibly know she had a hand in what happened to her mother. Could she?
No way!
She couldn't help but touch Kimberly's chin in a gentle way, tucking the strands of hairs lurking on her face at the back of her ear in a careful way not to hurt her. Truly, she does care for her goddaughter. But not to the extent of leaving the company she and her best friend Helena struggled to keep, since Helena's husband left mysteriously on the day she gave birth to their daughter, Kimberly.
Absolutely not!
However...
"I know how hard it is dear, but you have to take heart and bear with life. It was hard for me and Kiara too, we are here for you okay? We are your shoulder when you need one and as you know our are door is always open for you, alright?" She said as patted her on the shoulder.
Kimberly nearly scoffed a laugh out loud as she heard her mention Kiara's name. She sneered inwardly, she is going to make sure to make her and James pay in her own way and time... not just yet.
"Mm.." Kimberly muttered with irritation as slightly pushed her hand away from her shoulder, making it look like Michelle was hurting her with the pat she gave her.
She stretched herself slightly, pretending to yawn.
"I want to take a nap, and it's more like you don't have anything else to say so you can go." She said dismissively as laid back down on the hospital bed closing her eyes.
To Michelle, it was one thing to see her cheeky goddaughter looking at her with indifference, but for her goddaughter to dismiss her like that, it was another thing altogether for her. Maybe she just needed some space to get her head wrapped with everything that happened recently. She patted her again as she stood and slowly left the ward.
Kimberly opened her eyes and stared her retreating figure. Her eyes darkened as she sat up, staring thoughtfully in the direction she left.
"Michelle Smith...., just you wait!"
Picking a wet napkin from the sachet kept on the same small table Michelle had kept the things she brought for her. She wiped her face especially the place Michelle had touch her minutes ago.
She sat alone, resting her head on the bed rest and staring outside. Now, she had to clear her mind. Thinking through all the unfortunate memories she and her daughter had went through, and all those was credited to their love and trust towards those people especially the Dark North clan, she couldn't help wanting to slap and beat her chest herself over and over again.
However, it is in the past now. The past that will continue to hunt her if she doesn't get her revenge. The more she thought about it, the more her hatred grew.
Truly, she was guilty of the accusation which led to her death thou it was for a good deed but was her daughter guilty too? She was conferred as a law breaker in a clan she fought all her life for but what did she get in return? What did she do to those people that she had to lose her daughter too for their dreadful schemes?!
She buried her face in her palms and cried helplessly. She couldn't help it, this is too much for her to bear up till this moment. She knew she is a strong woman but not with this type of emotional trauma. Recalling all those times she'd have shared with her daughter but she too busy to spare her time, building their company and handling some of the affairs of Dark North clan, she wept uncontrollably. She could blame herself for being too naive in the past.
Memories of her daughter that hit her minutes ago, taunted her. Those times her daughter would sit with Michelle instead of her, asking for a motherly advise and care.
"Baby.... Mama is so sorry, this unfilial mother of yours is deeply sorry for everything..." She said her voice husky while patting herself on the chest as she cried bitterly. She needed no one to tell her how much she failed her daughter as a mother.
Wiping her face, as she tried to calm herself down. She swore to get her revenge for all the pains they caused her. As for the Dark North clan, she would make sure they pay with their blood this time.
Slowly, she lifted her face as she touched her face and body. This time, she is now her eighteen years old daughter Kimberly Hills, who still have a full life ahead of her and she won't live it less again. She would need to start building her plan so as to catch the lightning in the bottle in future.
This time, She will never be blinded by love and trust again. She would never let her guard down and let anyone hurt her again!
In this life, as far as she could take her revenge on every singe one that was a part of her grievances, she didn't mind becoming a villain!
She thought, her eyes glittering with a hint of coldness and indifference.
