At Jura's residence, a detective named Detective Arber arrives to inquire about Alek.
"I'm telling you he's escaped," Jura says frantically, "you should be out there looking for him right now instead of wasting time here."
"Please calm down. Our records say that your slave was not a criminal, so we have to take proper precautions."
"What does that matter? He is my property. My father bought him for me for my birthday. I demand you return him back."
"I said calm down, already. As I said, I have to inquire about you first before we begin. We must determine if he ran away with good cause."
"What good cause? He has no right to escape."
"The law does not see the poor the same way as criminals. If he ran away, we must make sure why."
"This is ridiculous. How can you say such things about a slave? It doesn't matter if he is a criminal or not, I own him and can do whatever I want with him."
