Eyes opened to truth (part 3)

Still processing her son's words, a gust of wind swept past her. She was then enveloped by strong arms that held her knees and lifted her into the air.

"Hah!"

She found herself gazing down at a pair of hawk-like, dark eyes that both demanded and begged for her not to let go.

"Adelaide, don't listen to him."

She continued to peer down at her husband's handsome face which was almost unrecognizable without the weariness. The fact that there were no more scars on his chest filled her heart with unparalleled joy. Yet, there was something more that made him seem like a different man.

For the first time, Egon von Conradie's eyes radiated peace instead of war.

"...Set me down; there's nothing wrong with me."
