33 – In a Lab

After passing through various sectors and I did multiple bypasses, we arrived at the lab in question. Not a single monster was in our way. But the deeper we went, the more we found the roots of evil attached to the walls and various items.

"Let's hope we can find what we're looking for." I connected myself to a computer terminal in the lab.

"Yeah." Ciara stood guard behind me. "So that Bonnie can get well soon."

But I sensed something wasn't right. Our trip to this place went smoothly, even though we found many spider monsters outside. We even struggled against them.

"What?" Ciara hissed, then jumped away. I looked back and saw shot marks of cobwebs on the floor.

I saw a male humanoid spider monster crawling up to the roof. He shot webs out of his mouth, and Ciara kept dodging.

The super soldier jumped up, trying to slash that creature. But he can also dodge and get away.

I decided to unplug my cable from that computer terminal and hid behind a desk, observing that monster. He looks more muscular than an ordinary human, with a brown body and eight black eyes.

Were it not for the human form and the number of his arms and legs, he would have looked like a spider.

"A human, huh?" That monster landed on the floor and started walking towards Ciara, who kept her stance with her sword. "Did you come here on purpose to spoil my plans?"

I sensed there was something odd in his voice. His accent is not foreign to me. This differs greatly from the female humanoid figure that entangled humans back then.

It seemed he had spoken the language for a long time.

"Were you a human before?" Ciara relayed my question.

The monster chuckled. "You guessed it, huh? I love talking about it but now is not the time. You must die, lady."

He jumped up and shot cobwebs from his mouth again. Ciara was still able to dodge, but barely this time.

And as time goes by, the monster seems to be able to read Ciara's movements. The super soldier found it increasingly difficult to dodge.

Then, the monster finally entangled one of the leg joints of Ciara's E.E.S. The super soldier was forced to kneel down and get a hard kick to her chest. The strike was strong enough to send Ciara rolling several feet back, smashing several tables into pieces.

The monster didn't stop there. He fired at the other joints of the E.E.S as Ciara started getting up. The super soldier couldn't move because of that.

"Why?" Ciara spoke my words again, this time to buy time. "Why did you become their slave?"

"Just so you know, what I'm doing is for the greater good." The monster also looked up. Ciara threw her sword up.

The super soldier ejected herself from the E.E.S and jumped to take the sword, immediately giving her enemies a combination of slashes and thrusts.

However, the monster managed to easily dodge all of that. He counterattacked in the form of consecutive kicks and punches. Ciara had a hard time avoiding and could only block those.

She was overwhelmed because several of the attacks hit her body hard, causing her to stagger and roll backward. Little by little, her energy bar is decreasing.

And then, the monster jumped and kicked Ciara until she was blown away and hit the wall.

"Your speed and endurance are extraordinary compared to ordinary humans." The monster stared at Ciara, who was trying to get up from the floor. "Are you an enhanced individual, or is your bodysuit that makes you like that? Ah…. Maybe my former scientist soul would be curious about that, but now it doesn't matter. What's important now is to serve a true god."

"A true god?" Ciara had a bit of trouble getting up. The attack just now has depleted her energy shield and seems to have enough impact on her body. "What do you mean?"

Shit. I have to do something but don't know what it is.

"You don't need to know." Like kicking a ball, the monster slammed his foot into the super soldier's stomach, sending her flying again. The sword in her hand was also released.

The super soldier tried to get up again, but it was getting more difficult for her. Instead, she vomited blood on the floor.

I came out of hiding to approach Ciara.

"Hmmm?" The monster hissed, leaping toward me. "Is this your friend?"

I tried to run away, but the monster caught me.

"Just so you know." The monster continued. "I hate all kinds of robots."

He gripped me hard with both hands, and I could hear the metallic crackling sound from my own body.
