Chapter 15 Part II

“What’s the matter? You’ve been scowling since the evening.”

“Nothing is the matter,” the young man denied, continuing to focus on eating the food on his plate.

Sakunthara’s skill in cooking had yielded dishes so delicious, he had had to have a third plate of rice. It wasn’t often that he ate northern dishes whose flavors were as familiar to him as these.

“Does my daughter-in-law cook delicious food?” Madam Warakun teasingly asked, feeling him out.

“You keep announcing that she’s your daughter-in-law. Does the person herself even accept that or not?” he said as he put some rice into his mouth and chewed heartily. He followed it with another segment of Chinese long bean.

“And what if I threw the question back to you, Pong? Is a woman like this qualified to be my daughter-in-law?”

The young man froze and looked at his mother’s face. “I do not know.”
