Already a Mother, Not Quite a Wife

The sound of movements in the bedroom awakened the young woman. She had sponged him down all night to decrease his fever and had probably dozed off at dawn. However, when she opened her eyes and saw that she was sleeping on the bed, she got up in shock.


“Go back to sleep. I’m sorry for waking you,” said the voice of the other person. Although it was still scratchy and dry, it was clearer than last night.


He was in his work clothes, prepared to go out to work. “Are you really going to work?”


“But you had a high fever all night.”


The young man smiled at her tenderly and lifted his hand to softly brush away the strands of hair in front of her forehead. “Thank you for wiping me down the entire night, too. You’ve had to tire yourself out because of me. Go back to sleep. I’ll go out and tell Primpao and Michelle myself.”


“It’s fine. I’m awake already.” The young woman moved to get up.


“Sleep a little bit more. Your face is still exhausted.”
