ARES'S POV
She was gone and I was left alone in my bed.
I hate that I couldn’t help her. I only heard fragments of what her father had said, but he was wrong. I loved Leilani and I would put her first. I should have made a statement about my separation from Christina before pulling Leilani into the spotlight with me, but I doubt that would have ceased the online fire she’s getting.
My mother and Christina had sent me several articles that attacked Leilani and her character. I was more than certain that her father would show her the very same articles and no doubt demand she stop seeing me.
I brushed my hair out of my face and sat up in the bed, the events of last night slowly filtering into my mind. It should have gone better, and my family should have shown her some resemblance of grace or kindness. Anastasia was the only one who cared that Leilani meant something to me.
