LEILANI'S POV
Alexa was smarter than I gave her credit for. She had helped me complete my proposal for a woman-owned and employed business even though she pointed out that we couldn’t discriminate if a male applied. Despite my better judgment, I caved, but I remained headstrong on being predominately female.
“Can I ask you a personal question?” I asked, closing the top of my laptop.
“I don’t see why not.” She shrugged, leaning her head on the back of the couch.
“My father,” I began, and she straightened her back, becoming frigid.
We got along fine with my father, who wasn’t involved and I would even go as far as to say if they weren’t married we could have been friends.
