Awakening[1]

The sun slowly fell, vacating the sky for a crescent shaped moon to take its place while also delivering the parting gift of darkness.

Yu Sheng sat calmly at the peak of a nameless hill, awaiting his death without a hint of fear, remorse or regret in his eyes.

He could see a faint dot, reminiscent of a small ball of light, the only one in the abyssal darkness bestowed upon the world by the day and night cycle. Soon, the small light rose and became larger until it engulfed his entire vision, the light almost as blinding as that from the magnanimous sun.

Thousands of men on horses with lit torches charged against one man who was sitting peacefully, it was already a foregone conclusion that his death would occur here.

He could see large men and tiny men, archers and swordsmen. All in all, there were around fifty men organised in a circular formation around the hill.

Yet he still sat there, his eyes closed, seemingly in deep contemplation. He was not disturbed by the angry shouts of the army's general, nor was he distraught when a sword was pointed at his head.

He stood up, unsheathed his blade and raised his sword to his own neck. With a tranquil smile, he beheaded himself, dying contently.

Darkness.

The world became dark, but somehow Yu Sheng's spirituality remained, existing as one with the darkness while simultaneously being separated from it, two completely different ideas closely intertwining, yet still being infinitely distant.

His spirituality was radiant like the moon, emitting a faint white glow that did not affect the dark backdrop in the slightest.

At that moment, the darkness warped into a rainbow of colours that flew past Yu Sheng. He tried to turn his head to get a clear glimpse of what it was, but he realised that he had no head to turn.

The black darkness sometimes turned into regular primary colours such as yellow, red and blue, but also colours that could never exist on Earth, colours indescribable yet still somehow familiar.

Yu Sheng felt his spirituality travel through the spirit world, and into a new world altogether.

"Push!"

"Ahhh!"

Yu Sheng heard screams and shouts in a language he had never heard before, but somehow he perfectly understood it.

He felt as if he was getting pushed, he attempted to resist it, however, he could not conjure up any strength at all.

After a while, the pressure finally eased. He then felt two hands cupping his body and he heard joyful noises emitting from just above him.

He opened his eyes to a blinding light, not unlike the one that surrounded him and caused his death…

Didn't I just die? Yu Sheng was perplexed as he looked up at where the pushing first came from and saw a large woman with white hair smiling back, her face drenched with tears and her body covered with sweat.

To her left was a muscular man who was similarly smiling and even caressing Yu Sheng's soft forehead, the feeling was somewhat calming and familiar.

Dad… Huh? Yu Sheng unconsciously thought this, confusing him even more.

Reincarnation must exist then, maybe I am in a Western Country now. I must take revenge for myself by killing Lu Xian. I will return to China someday!

Yu Sheng came to the incorrect conclusion after understanding his situation. He was ambitious, instantly deciding on his future goals and planning out his return to China.

"What should we call him?" The mother asked, she and her husband had been quarrelling over their child's name for around two months and had not reached a valid conclusion.

"Hmm…" The husband fell into deep contemplation.

"Yu Sheng." A high-pitched voice that did not sound like it should belong to Yu Sheng sounded from his mouth.

"Hm?" The mother and the father were confused, who said that?

"Yu Sheng? That reminds me of the salad[1], raw fish and multiple spices and sauces, haha, it is almost making me salivate…" The father linked the two things together. "His name will be Yu Sheng, like the dish, he will be great!"

"Yu Sheng… I like this name! But who said it in the first place? Was it someone outside?" The mother looked out of the window in curiosity.

"Maybe it was sent from the heavens!" Yu Sheng's father had a glint in his eyes as he proclaimed.

"Maybe…" Yu Sheng's mother was still skeptical. "Let's leave now, Leywell."

They packed up their stuff and sat Yu Sheng in a floating circular box with a comfortable seat and a glass window which allowed him to see the outside world. Furthermore, the box followed a designated target, meaning the parents could do whatever they wanted without having to worry about their child. Finally, the box had a built-in motion sensor which will move the box before it hits anything, meaning the child would be completely safe.

What is this contraption? Is this what they have in the West? Yu Sheng was amazed by the technology but was disappointed with his family. But these are my parents? I have to put up with this idiocy until I am grown enough to leave? Wait, what is that?

After a bit of walking, Yu Sheng was placed into a pale white contraption with vibrant blue lining at the joins of each piece of metal. He was tied to a fairly comfortable seat with some sort of advanced black rope strapped around his body and connected to something ingrained into the seat.

This is not possible… I must be in the far future, meaning that if I am, Lu Xian will already be dead. Yu Sheng came to a second incorrect conclusion after seeing the technological advancements. I don't believe this… How can there be a higher power at play? I have never been someone religious or faithful, if I was, I would still be alive! This must be a fantasy conjured by my mind in my final moments, I have heard of time slowing down during one's death. If this is true, I should not get too immersed in this world, it is not real anyway.

Suddenly, the contraption began moving at an incomprehensible speed. While Yu Sheng was not happy about being tied up at first, now he was extremely grateful.

After a while, they arrived at an extremely large building, it was fully black, making it look the main office of a secret organisation.

Sure enough, it was.

Right now, Yu Sheng, his mother, Rasia Graz and his father, Leydell Smith were residing in a country called Cavastine located at the northern regions of Planet Blackshine, which was a mid-sized planet found in the spiral-shaped Acalantha Galaxy of the Sunset Galaxy Cluster.

Blackshine orbited two stars, therefore, it was considered a circumbinary planet. Night never fell on Blackshine, it was always daytime.

Cavastine and a few of its neighbouring countries and villages were controlled by an organisation called Whitesea, a monarchist group which enforced harsh laws upon the people of their controlled countries, one of them was that every child born must be examined by Whitesea.

They identify the child's potential and based on their potential, they can take them in and train them to be future military assets.

Rasia and Leydell were both firm believers in the ideologies of Whitesea, they would be delighted if Yu Sheng was chosen as to be trained even though the training was quite similar to torture.

They exited their seats and removed the restraints on Yu Sheng's body, placing him back into the floating white box and walking over towards the headquarters of Whitesea.

Before they reached the gate, they were stopped by a guard adorned in a black and white suit.

"Name?"

"Rasia Graz, Leydell Smith and Yu Sheng."

"Service required?"

"Child registration."

"Follow me."

After a short exchange, the guard opened the gate through brain computer interface technology, not even needing to make contact with it.

Yu Sheng was shocked at this, but he was also quite apprehensive.

Child registration? Is this some sort of infanticide?

The family was escorted into a smaller building located to the left and to the back of the main building. This was the 'child registration centre' and there was a large queue that extended out of it, covering a large portion of the surrounding area of the child registration centre.

Huh? Why are there so many people? Yu Sheng had never seen so many people gathered in one place before, he had only ever seen around ten.

There was at least a hundred, and that was only counting the people outside the centre, there was probably around two hundred altogether.

We will have to wait a really long time, it seems. Haha, with every passing second, I am becoming more immersed. I need to take a step back and understand the truth of this world. I do not believe that my previous conjecture was correct, if it is and I am in a false dream-like world, then surely I should not be able to feel contact and have every part of my body intact. My brain is not advanced enough for that. There are only two remaining possibilities, firstly, that I am in the far, far future or secondly, that I am in a completely different world altogether. The first possibility seems a lot more plausible than the second one. In either case, I have been given a second chance at life. Why would I ever want to go back to my old life in China if Lu Xian is probably already dead? I want to stay in this mystical world, the options seem endless - the technology is extremely advanced and it seems that the quality of life is much better than my old life.

I fully accept this future or world as my own, my name stays the same as everything else changes, I am no longer Chinese, instead my nationality is that of this country.

What the hell is this? Is this some sort of technology also? Title? Player? My race is an NPC? What is an NPC? What are these things: stats, talents, quests, classes, levels, experience, all the attributes, HP, these are words I have never came across in my long life.

Yu Sheng's mind was full of questions, but he didn't overthink it too much, thinking to himself.

Everyone definitely has the same thing, otherwise they would all be looking at me. As I age, I should be taught what these things are and how to utilise them.

For now, I should focus on the moment, this child registration. If it isn't anything major and is simply me being registered, then I shall focus on gaining the fastest possible acquisition of knowledge.
