Teacher's Regret (9)

3rd Person POV

The incident at Tsugaru Strait was then announced to the world, and the family members of the victims were brought onto the site to brief them on what happened. The program is now postponed and most of the participants are temporarily sent back for now.

Adam was also brought after hearing that his 2 sons are now stranded on Hokkaido with no way to help them, usually, these incidents would never happen, even though the waves are sometimes strong, the patrol boats used were specially made to resist that.

The latter boats who left later made it back while the earlier ones were all destroyed but one. Even then, only half the people who were on that boat survived.

The incident started because a reckless student didn't take the rules and warning seriously, despite the angels being far away, he shot a magic spell in their direction, and even if it didn't come close to hitting, the angels took that as a sign of aggression and started to attack the boats, and with the captains joining in, the people on the boasts didn't stand a chance.

Even if they're also at level 6, they can't win after being surrounded by enemies who are at their same strength level.

On his way in, Adam sees this familiar-looking woman at the entrance asking whether she can visit some young visits and have a talk, she then uttered his son's name, and with a closer look, he realized who she was, and he then approached her.

"I see, that's what happened, no wonder they were so uptight, there was even news of having people possibly evacuate." She said "I wanted to meet Perseus again and formally apologized to him, what I did was horrible, I found out what truly what happened when I overheard the kids laughing about it afterward.

"And after you left, I told my brother about how terrible I felt, he works as a paramedic, and he then revealed to me the death of your wife...and how it went...I should have been a proper teacher, he went through a lot, and instead of defending him, I-"

"Stop." Adam interjected, "It's in the past, we moved on."

"When I met him...he pretended to not even knowing who I am...I wish for a chance to properly apologize to him, I've always regretted it, I know that I have no chance of making proper amends, even if I will get screamed at, I still want to apologize to him with all my heart, but now..."

"Don't make it sound as if my sons will never return, they'll return home. They always do, and I'll be here waiting for them, no matter how long it takes."

After a short conversation, he took her business card and headed inside, he then got into the room of the distraught parents, many of who were crying over their lost children, some were the spouses of the officers that died.

Many people were flown over to be updated about what has happened, they have gotten a short brief of it, but they can only get the full details in person. Adam was led into a room containing the family members of the ones now stranded in Hokkaido.

And in the room was this projection slide with an old man talking on the screen, they were having a live video call, and to his relief, he can still see his sons in the background.

The people in that group are currently, Professor Everett, Captain Ida, Perseus, Shawn, Minerva, Juliette, 1 other student named Stephanie, and 2 navy officers with no magic or any ability to fight angels.

After some quick updates, they were each given 2 minutes to talk to their loved ones, they needed it to be quick because the group will have to move from their hiding spot soon.

Shawn POV

"Dad, oh how glad we are to see you!"

"You 2 boys are okay over there?" he asked

"Yup, luckily they launched that low-orbit satellite or whatever, any survivors can still make proper contact with the mainland." Perseus said, "We got our phones and chargers with us as well, so as long as we have service, we'll update you as much as possible."

"Good, just send me a message every now and then, and I'll be on the lookout, if possible, call me, I want to hear your voice, be safe out there. These lots are adamant on not sending in a rescue team since it's suicide, but there are groups of volunteers that should be formed and going in 2 months or so, last till then."

"Dad, are you going to stay in Japan for the time being? What about the shop?" I asked

"The life insurance money came in handy, don't worry, I got trustworthy people working there, for now, I'll stay here, I'll wait for you, so you 2 better promise me that we can go home together, alright?"

The call was up and we then left our cave, earlier we had to hide there, but angels are very good at sensing human presences, we're going to need their armor fragments to hide our presence, so we'll have to take a few of them down to get those pieces of armor.

We trudged a bit deeper into the island, staying by the border will only get us noticed. The prof took the lead while the captain took the back, the rest of us are in the middle with rifles drawn. We don't necessarily know how to use them properly, but it's better than walking with nothing as we're trying to preserve our energy.

The mood wasn't good, everyone was tense, even though we're relatively safe now, we know that there's a reason why those who enter here never go out. Currently, we're navigating the safe routes according to the reports of earlier cartographers and cameramen who made it to the island to map everything out.

And just as we head into this forest and walk deeper and deeper into it, I can see from afar that there's these flying blobs of light.
