We Got A Map (4)

Perseus POV

The next few days were a haze, we'd been on this island for a good 2 weeks now, and the 3 who went to check the port were gone, but hadn't got back yet, Shawn studied the map a bit and went out scouting several times to scavenge for parts to bring back, Midori visits us often...and yada yada.

But I managed to bring up a question that I haven't asked in a long while, the grimoire that Sterling tasked me with, and sure enough...

"The elders say that it exists," Midori said, "They have written records on it, they are also willing to show it, but it's apparently not much as it's only in a diary passed on from one of our pasts elders, that's the only proof we have."

"What does it say, I just want a summary."

"Well, it just starts with saying that it's currently in the possession of humans," she answered, "And should never be used in any circumstances, it preys upon those who are weak and vulnerable, and the moment you even open its pages, you will most likely be a victim, they warn you to not go search for it by any means."

"What if someone did use it? What should I do?"

"Well, the diary just said to kill the user and find a way to seal or destroy the grimoire."

"Thanks, you've done me a great favor, I've been curious about it ever since I've heard of its story."

"No, you are a blessed one, such a favor can be done easily, especially after you offered us your precious blood. I recommend you going back to read for proof, but bring one of those glass tools that enlarges the letters and allow you to look at small things."

"Sure."

For that day, I went with Midori back with a magnifying glass, and sure enough, the diary didn't have much, but what Midori said was summed up well, the elder who wrote the diary was apparently a part of the group of people who found it in the first place.

The diary only stated that and nothing else, the elder who wrote it chose to hide all other details as apparently the grimoire is described as a disgusting existence. This now just begs the question of why Sterling and that syndicate want it.

They aren't that bad of people, I've seen fathers, mothers, and even nurses who are a part of that group who led normal lives, so it's strange for them to search for such a thing with such a reputation.

Well, the fairies' words should be more than enough, I can tell Sterling of these guys' existence and I'm more than sure that he doesn't need to come search here as I'm more than sure that they'll trust my words, they'll also have no reason to search it if it's backed up by the fact that I've read it to confirm the fairies' words.

When Midori went back to her home that day, Shawn asked to talk to her about the possible locations where they can transfer to. The elders heeded my advice and are telling their people to start packing as they may leave at any day, my words as a blessed one apparently hold more value than I thought.

Shawn knows of a couple of places in the same forest that no humans would go to since apparently it's cursed by the angels, so they are safer for the angels to move to as such curses shouldn't affect them.

Religion and beliefs in mythical and spiritual beings spiked up greatly after the angels appeared, so if there are rumors to void a hotel because it's haunted, it's taken more seriously now. Even influencers would go to those places armed and with a hired sorcerer by their side.

This only causes doubt since no ghostly activities have been properly recorded yet after the angels came, though it's not like everyone knows that ghosts tend to stray away from sorcerers, as long as they're nearby, no one should be worried about being haunted.

Later that day, the group of 3 came back from the port, and they say that they managed to sneak in a bit deeper to get a proper audio call with the mainland, though the angels found them and they hide to hide for a couple of days, only making it back now.

The mainland is sending a suicide squad to attempt to rescue us, though they are prioritizing Julie and the Everetts over the rest of us, they are betting their resources on the development of Minerva Everett and Julie becoming level 9 and 8 respectively.

Their plan is simple, they'll go to the waters where the angels can see them and lure them there, they'll bring 3 boats, 2 are to bring us home, one is to bait the angels, and basically...well...face the consequences.

Though, we'll have to meet them halfway since they can't come all the way to the port and expect to get back with minimum or no losses. So we'll have to man the ships somehow...

the navy officers can do it, even if they're different kinds of boats, they can catch up quickly with a few instructions given to them over calls, we'll also have to think about the boats' dead batteries...

But for now, we at least got some hope, and whenever we're ready to escape, we'll have to tell them the date since we're dependent on them arriving and protecting us on the way back.

"We're going to need to scout out the port several more times and narrow down our plans." Captain Ida said, "At least the navy officers managed to narrow down which ship we'll be taking, but...the rest of us also need to be ready to fight with all our strength to protect the officers as they get it started."

"Yes, we'll need to know each and every one of your strengths." the prof added, "And that means no holding back and fighting with our lives on the line."
