Chapter 10 CHAPTER 10: Excuses

“Angela!” I heard a knock on my door. “Are you awake?”

“Y-Yes, Auntie,” I said as an answer.

I started to fix myself. It’s seven in the morning, the only safe time Jenny and I can talk without any disturbance.

“Prepare the breakfast!”

“Yes, Auntie. I’m going out.”

“Make it fast.” I wait until her footsteps vanish.

I inhaled a lungful air and sigh. I understand that my suffering is starting now when my father died.

I wasn't expecting that Attorney George Ashton will be coming today for breakfast.

I just look at them, Auntie Amanda and George talking differently. It doesn’t seem flirtatious but since when they became close to each other? I mean, I know and truly understand that Auntie Amana is already a widow but is it right to smile and laugh with Attorney George while the forty days of my late father isn’t finished?

“What are you looking at?” I almost jump on my sit when Tommy, brother of Maricar, and my stepbrother held my hand. He was sitting next to me and we are facing Auntie Amanda and the attorney.

I instantly take back my hand without even looking at him. Since the night he went into my room and trying to take advantage of me, I started to become more cautious. I am always locking my door. I even had to put a double lock just to secure myself away from Tommy.

I can see how his eyes give me a different look right now. He stared at me in a different way every time our gazes connected. He looks at me like I am his woman. Bathing me in something I don’t like and I felt disgusted that’s why I am trying my best not to look at him.

I stand up, making an excuse that I finished my food when it has to remain few spoonfuls of food still.

“Are you done eating?” auntie asks. She was interrupted when I suddenly stand up without even saying anything.

“Yes. I have a lot of things to do.”

“Okay. But you need to get ready as Attorney Ashton will be announcing about a correction in the last will.”

My gaze nailed at auntie, wondering what she was trying to say.

“Go and do what you need to do.”

I turned my back heading to the exit of the dining area.

My thought started to swallow me right now. What does she mean by correction? What needed to clarify?

“Are you wondering what mom is trying to say?” I become astounded when he suddenly shows himself. I didn’t know he followed me from dining.

“I am not interested,” I said in a cold toning voice.

He grins like a devil. “Hmmm... We will see, Angela.” Then he steps forward blocking my way.

I tried to pass from him. I can’t even afford to see his face and how he grins at me. He was twenty-nine, three years older than me. He acts around and even bosses around when auntie does not know.

“Don’t try to lure me at you, Angela. You will not like it.”

“I don’t like you that’s all. Please, stop following and pestering me.” I tried my best to blurt it out, have all the courage to say it in front of his face.

I can’t say he was the ugliest person on earth. He wasn’t, I just never find him appealing. He has a mustache around his chin up to the lower part of both of his ears, tan skin tone, good bodybuilt as he looks like always in a gym, a masculine broad body. I am five feet and eight inches and I guess he was around five feet and nine inches tall.

“Let me pass,” I said not even begging him.

He walks forward making me step backward until he corners me in the wall. “Do you think you can run all you want, Angela?”

“What part of my word you can’t comprehend with?” I heard he didn’t even finish high school, maybe that’s the reason he can not accept my words.

I force my eyes to close when his arm wraps around my waist. I can feel how my eyelid trembles by our distance as almost strands of hair separated us. “Don’t act like a fucking virgin, Angela. You already had Vincent and I know you get what I mean. And now that Vincent is already dating my little sister that means you are single now.”

I open my eyes from what he said. “I will never let Vincent be with Maricar.”

“You should wake up, my Angela” He holds my chin lifting it, making me look at his eyes. “You will never be with Vincent or any other man because you will be mine. And I will make sure no one can take you from me.”

“Don’t be full of yourself and brag about it, Tommy. I would rather choose to die than be with you.” I push his dirty hands away from me. “I will never be yours,” I finally said and walk away.
