I looked down on the box I prepared beforehand, standing before a post office. The address stamped the same house where we lived together.
Maybe if I had the courage to face you one last time – we’d have a better goodbye than this.
I caressed the letter I wrote, ready to be placed inside. The letter reads:
“My Dearest Walter,
I give this to you with greater sadness than anything – I’ve done something I reckon no husband could ever forgive. A one-night accident with a strange man I barely know – ‘tis enough for me to die with guilt. Just know I truly loved you, with every beat of my heart – I scream for you. We met with a tragic beginning – you saved me from the nightmares that haunted me, now, we also end with a tragic ending. Maybe if we meet again someday – we will start on better footing and we will forever be with each other again.
