Chapter 14

DREW

My head was spinning when I went to bed that night, but, finally, my mind quit the task and allowed my exhausted body to sink into a deep sleep.

The incessant ringing of my iPhone yanked me from a very erotic dream that involved Lucas. I didn’t know whether to be relieved or annoyed as I blindly reached for it on the nightstand.

“Yes?” I answered in my groggy voice.

“Drew… It’s Camille…” she hiccupped through her tears. “Can I come up?”

My gaze wandered to the clock and I groaned inwardly. It was a minute before three in the morning and I had to be at the office in three hours. What could be so urgent that it couldn’t wait until the sun came up?

“Sure. Let me inform the doorman.” I threw the comforter back and shuffled down the hall while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. “It’s going to be a long night,” I sighed and wandered through the spotless kitchen, putting the kettle on. This gig was beginning to feel like I was more of a babysitter than her attorney.
