“We’re being followed, capo,” Nico informed, as he glanced in the rearview mirror.
“Lose them,” I instructed.
“We’ll have to drive to the airstrip using the back route but what about Miss Ellington, sir?”
“She will have to come along with us,” I said and she shook her head vehemently.
“No, I cannot go with you!”
“You’ll have to, cara,” I brushed aside her protests. “You’re not safe. Someone is after me and you just might get caught up in the crossfire.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, turning frightened eyes to me. “Am I in danger?”
“You could be but I’d rather not take that chance and leave you behind. I am taking you with me.”
“What have you done? Who is after you?” she interrogated.
