Chapter 4 INVESTIGATION RESULTS

NAOMI'S POV

I aimlessly drove in the hope of finding a place to stay tonight, it was nearing midnight, and I was feeling thirsty, and my Angel needed milk too. Although staying in this car was my only option for now, but I knew it wasn't safe nor practical.

After what that lady told me, I was scared. I know that I need to be careful. My scent changed when I turned rogue, and I made sure to rub my scent all over my Angel, but I knew I had to be cautious.

I can't let anyone find out that my daughter could be the next Alpha heir apparent, only if my mate excepts me as a rogue, which I doubt.

I have heard stories of Callum Black wiping out the rogue who attacked his pack years ago. He is known as "The Butcher" for a reason.

He killed hundreds of rogues mercilessly to avenge the death of his little sister. And I can't risk my daughter's life.

Why would an Alpha who hates rogues would go except his rogue daughter?

I sighed and decided that as long as he was out of the picture, we both were going to be just fine. All I need to do is find a place to stay and a stable job.

I took a deep breath and decided to take small steps, first finding a place and then the job.

The fuel gauge in my truck indicated that soon I would have to face another problem, so I decided to stop by the gas station.

I asked a few people for the directions, and only the omegas were polite enough to stop and help me with the directions.

As the Alpha heir myself, I never faced problems like this. All I did was train and study to become an Alpha that my pack needed and deserved.

I finally reached the nearest gas station and filled the tank. Now for the next meal, I will either have to rob someone or kill someone. I don't think everyone is going to offer me food, just like Malina.

As I got out of the truck, my eyes caught the neon sign, "SELF SERVICE WATER STATION."

I sent a prayer to the moon goddess and thanked her for watching over me and sending help.

I filled my water bottle and my Angel's bottle. Angel is definitely going to need it after her next session of crying. But I am glad that the moon goddess gave me such a calm daughter; unlike other newborn babies, she hasn't bothered me much. Maybe she knows that her mother is already stressed.

I quenched my own thirst and fed my baby. Then I filled some more water for future use. I looked at her sleepy face and inhaled her scent.

She is my only motivation right now; if I am hoping and thriving for a better future, then it is all because of her, and I know that I will succeed.

I believe in the moon goddess and in myself. I was never the kind of a person who gives up easily, and I am not going to do it now that I have my baby with me.

I kissed her soft cheeks, and she snuggled closer to my chest.

"We are going to be an okay little one; you just have to stay with mommy and support her," I whispered.

She made a noise in her sleep and held my finger tightly as if she was afraid that I'd leave her.

I kissed her forehead once again and basked in the softness of her plump skin.

My sweet miracle.

I kept looking at her for God knows how long and came out of my reverie when I realized that it was nearing midnight.

Maybe I should just sleep here; there's a headquarters nearby, so I don't think anyone will try something stupid.

I covered Angel with my shirt and adjusted myself in my car seat to get a comfortable position.

I made sure to lock the car door and all the windows before giving into sleep.

CALLUM'S POV

"What took you so long?" I asked my beta.

"There are total of three hospitals in the pack, and it took them some time to collect all the information related to new births around the pack within the last week." He informed me, and I knew he was holding back.

"Go on." I gave him permission.

"There was a total of fifty-two rogue births recorded in the past week." My eyes widened, and I felt alarmed by the increasing number of rogues around the pack.

"Don't you think that's a little too much?"

"Yes, but what do you expect they are feral beings; they don't understand the concept of family planning and all."

"Is there anything else?" I asked and finally opened the file to check the name of the candidates.

"Most of the rogues admitted in hospitals were accompanied by their mates and others by their families. That leaves us with seven rogue births. If you check the names on the last page of this file, you'll find the names of those rogues who were admitted in emergency and had no one with them." He explained the summary, and I checked the list on the last page.

"You've done a great job. Now, all we need to do is investigate these seven rogues. The aura of their babies will giveaway if someone from our pack was involved with those filthy mutts sexually." I said, revolted with the thought of being sexually involved with those mutts.

How can someone from my pack stoop so low?

"Okay, Alpha. Do you want us to go now?" he asked politely, and I checked my watch and realized it was already a quarter past nine.

"No, I will go with you tomorrow morning. I want to incarcerate them myself, and we also need to make sure that none of them harm the child, or else I will give the culprit the most painful death." I swore, and I could feel him shudder at the thought.

Everyone in the pack knew how much I hate rogues and how bad I wish to kick them out of here. The only person stopping me from doing that is the former Alpha of this pack, who is also now a member of the werewolf council.

My father wanted to give them a chance to survive by giving them shelter in the pack, while I wanted to make sure that I make their life a living hell by not giving them equal rights as the others.

"Should I ask our trackers to resume their previous investigation?" He asked.

"No, wait until we catch the rogue. You can leave Beta Torben. But I want you to be ready tomorrow by 8:00 in the morning." I ordered.

"Of course, Alpha." He bowed and then left me alone.

I checked the list once again and smirked at the thought of torturing another rogue soon. I will give that baby a better life, a life that those mutts can never give him or her.

NAOMI'S POV

I opened my eyes when I felt someone knocking on the window. I rolled it down to find a security guard eyeing me strangely.

"Yes?" I asked in a raspy voice.

God! I sound like a dying duck.

"What are you doing here? Don't you know that this is private property?"

"Private property? But this is a gas station?" I pointed.

"Yes, and this gas station along with that property is owned by the gamma of this pack, and that is why you need to leave." He informed, and I sighed.

"Okay, I am sorry I didn't know that. I'll leave this place." I yawned and instantly covered my mouth, not wanting to be disrespectful. I looked at the young security guard and noticed that he was quite young and looked like he wasn't here by choice.

"Um…are you okay, mister?" I asked.

"I am fine, thank you but-"

"I know…I know I need to leave, and this is a private property. I was just concerned about you. I mean, you look like you need some water. Here, have some water." I offered him some water from my bottle, and his lips finally quirked up a little.

"Um…no, thank you." He said hesitantly.

"Oh please, I insist. It's hot out there, and it must be hard for you to wake up this early. And then coming here on time." I rambled on and on, and his face softened a little. Maybe I can get some information out of him or ask him if I can find a place to stay.

"Thank you for caring. But I don't have any other option. I work so that I can help my family." He sighed.

"Aww…I can't say that I understand your pain, but I really appreciate what you are doing." I said and held in hand in sympathy.

"Thank you…this means a lot to me. Actually I-"

"What's going on here?" A new voice interrupted our conversation, and I stiffened.
