Chapter 4 Chapter Four

I start to assess him to see how many injuries he had and the severity of them, he had a huge gash on his left side which was oozing blood. If it wasn’t for the occasional whimper from him, I would have suspected him to be dead. Every time he would open his eyes, they would captivate me in many ways but I knew I didn’t have much time to enjoy them.

I reach behind me where my basket of new herbs sat, I needed to clean the wound to give him the best chance at surviving. I begin to clean his injury which was only showing me how bad this actually was. I try my best to heal the wound with the medical knowledge I knew and the herbs, but something kept telling me this wasn’t going to be enough to save him. My mind was racing with all the possibilities and natural remedies that I could make, but I was unsure if he had enough time for me to make them. There was only one thing I could do to save him, I couldn’t let anyone see me do this though.

I frantically look around my surroundings in case anyone was approaching, when I found no one I nod my head turning to look at the hurt wolf.

“What I’m about to do will save your life, but you can’t tell anyone that I did this” I tell him looking him in the eyes, which hold my gaze before dropping closed once more.

It’s now or never, with a deep breath in I close my eyes placing my hands on the wolf who’s breathing was beginning to slow. I picture the wolf in my mind laying there hurt, slowly balls of light begin to surround the wolf focusing on the location of his hurt side. I picture the balls of light entering his wound and healing it from the inside out, where in seconds the wound was fully healed and the wolf was on his feet once more.

I open up my eyes looking down at the wound, which as like in my head the wound was fully healed. I was taught this healing spell by my witch friend, she teaches me so much when we are able to see each other. If anyone found out I had a friend like her, they’d kill her and severely punish me. I knew the spell had worked which told me the wolf will make a full recovery, he just needs to rest to let his body catch up with the spell.

Taking a look down at my watch panic starts to set in, I have to be in the pack house when the wolves return from training. I can’t leave this wolf here without him being conscious, he’ll be the biggest target. I begin to hurriedly scan my surroundings, where a little cave stood on the edge of the woods. I could put him there where he’ll be safe from the weather, but also anything that would wish to harm him.

Moving him into the cave was easier said then done, I take ahold of him and slowly drag him over to the cave. My feet kept slipping in the dry mud, I was very close to face planting the floor on many occasions. I finally reach the face of the cave where I lay the wolf safely on the ground, making sure he was comfortable I stand up also picking up my basket.

“You’ll be okay now, just get some rest here until you’re fully healed” I smile looking down at the sleeping wolf, before turning on my heels and walking straight out the cave and towards the pack house.

It was the next morning, I managed to arrive back in the pack house minutes before everyone else. Thankfully, nobody asked why I was severely out of breath and sweating buckets of sweat. I head down the stairs of the pack house where Harvey stood, talking with another wolf but soon looks up at me.

“I’m just heading out to get more herbs and things, I managed to collect so many yesterday that I thought I’d take another look around” I smile walking towards the door, he raises his eyebrow at me but doesn’t protest instead, he nods and tells me to be careful.

I smile before walking out the door and down the steps, heading towards the woods I was in yesterday. I wasn’t being fully honest with Harvey back there, yes I was heading to the place I found the herbs yesterday but I wasn’t going for the herbs. The whole night all my mind could think about was that wolf and his intoxicating smell, I thought it would be a little too suspicious if I went out late at night into the woods.

I walk down the same path that I did yesterday where the cave soon comes into view, with a smile I walk over but that smile kind of faded. The wolf wasn’t where I left him yesterday, he wasn’t anywhere. But surprisingly, I didn’t feel sad or upset, I knew this meant the wolf was feeling better and managed to go home wherever that may be. Yes, I would have loved to see those eyes and smelt his scent one last time, but at least I managed to save him. With that last thought, I begin to make my way back to the pack house.

Once I arrive, Harvey was stood outside with a huge smile on his face. This just aids in making me also happy, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen that smile on his face. He soon looks over watching me walk from the woods and over to him.

“I thought you were heading out to get more herbs?” He asks looking down at my empty basket in my hands, oh in my hurry I must have forgotten to pick some.

“I went to get some but realised I had enough of them all, so I came back” I smile hoping my story was believable, he nods his head with another smile.

“I have some great news to tell you, Colten has returned” he tells me happily, I send him a confused look not knowing who this Colten was and why this was such great news “you know Colten, the rightful Alpha of this pack, my cousin Colten” he says having to really explain it to me, but I soon understand who he was talking about.

“Oh that Colten, that’s great news that he has returned home safely” I smile agreeing with him, maybe this pack can be free of Alpha Dylan and his cruel ways.

“It is such great news, things will finally start to look up for us now Colten is back” Harvey says giving me the biggest hug, once again it was great that he was back to his normal happy self once again.

When I’m around Colten after he has took his place as Alpha, I will need to address him as Alpha Colten. He may be Harvey’s blood cousin but he isn’t mine, it would be disrespectful and highly inappropriate if I were to address him by his first name only.

“There is a party being held for Colten tonight, you need to be there to help” Harvey informs me where I just send him a nod, I need to make a good impression, so helping set his party up will definitely insure that.
