Chapter 3 Chapter Three

Soon after we arrived, Alpha Dylan assigned us with our tasks and living quarters. Harvey and I were assigned to the pack house, the only good thing that came from that was we would be together. There were many downfalls though, for instance that is where all the unmated he-wolves and she-wolves stay. I can already hear the whispers that will erupt when we enter, but I need to remember what father used to tell me. Treat others with kindness for you may be unaware of the struggles they could be facing alone.

Meredith was assigned housekeeper of Alpha Dylan, but we all knew the real reason she was assigned that position. My fathers body probably wasn’t even cold when she already jumped into bed with another man.

We had now been here a week, where things are going as well as expected. As I thought, the first thing the wolves in the pack house picked up on was me not shifting yet. Honestly, the insults did little to really insult me as it’s things I’ve heard many times before. The she-wolves were the worst for it, which only got worse when one of the guys would start hitting on me. I knew I just had to suck my feelings up, I didn’t have anywhere else to go if I didn’t want to be hunted down by Alpha Thomas.

The first few days here were dreadful, the women here just tormented me the entire time, while the men wouldn’t leave me alone. I have a feeling of dread in the morning, knowing what kind of reception I was going to get. Hopefully once they get used to me being here, they would back off a little.

I leave my room, my head down as I walk down the same path. I was hoping if I stay on the sidelines and blend in, I will remain invisible. I arrive at the main stairs, where walking in the front door were all the wolves that had just finished training.

“There she is, has your wolf woken up yet?” One of the girls spit at me as I reach the bottom, I send her a smile shaking my head.

“No, but I’ll be sure to let you know when she does” I say speaking ever so kindly to her, as much as it really bothered me to do so, my fathers voice kept repeating the same saying over and over again.

“How about you bring that fine ass of yours over here, I know some techniques that will bring her around” one of the guys smirk leaning up against the wall, I also send him a kind smile.

“I’m sure she will wake up on her own, thank you for the offer” I smile walking closer over to the sofa, where he responds with a roll of his eyes.

One of the last people to walk in was a young man, he appeared to be a few years younger than me. He stumbled his way in holding tightly onto his arm, between his fingers were red due the blood that was seeping out.

“Mitch, I thought you were going to the nurse to get that checked out?” The guy from before asks him, Mitch responded with a shake of the head.

“I was on my way there but the Alpha stopped me, he told me I need to walk it off as only a weak wolf would go to the nurse” he whines out stumbling over to the sofa, the blood began to spill from his hand and run down his arm.

“I could take a look at it if you like, I’m actually medically trained?” I suggest looking up from the floor, where I was drawing the attention to myself I had been avoiding.

Mitch takes a look up to me, by his eyes alone I could see how much pain he was really in. Without looking at anyone else, he nods his head before laying back on the sofa. I rush over to him where everyone for the first time since I arrived, moved out of my way and didn’t shove me or try to push me down to the ground. Once I reach him, the blood was now trickling down his shirt and landing on the sofa below him. I place my hand on his slowly removing it from the wound on his arm, where three huge slashes sat blood pouring out of them.

“Can somebody get me a sanitised needle, thread and some cloths to clean the wound?” I ask looking up at everyone, who were looking over at what I was doing so intently.

The guy that hit on me as he walks in nods his head and darts out of the room, while others walk over moving the cushions so Mitch could sit more comfortably. Just from the state of his arm, I could estimate the amount of pain he was really in.

“To help with his pain, I need someone to round up some parsley and see if you have any ginger, mixed together with water helps pain” I say inspecting the wound as the dude runs back in.

He held a single needle which had steam pouring out, which told me he just soaked it in hot water to help sterilise it. In his opposite hand, he held black thread. I thank him placing everything on the coffee table in front of me, as another girl runs over holding some damp cloths.

I begin to clean around the wounds which only cause him to hiss in pain, I apologise before getting back to work. Eyes were on me the entire time as Mitch is handed the herb drink, which he wastes no time gulping down. I then set to work sticking up his wound while he lay there, it wasn’t the worst person I’ve treated before. Once he was fully sticked up, I place a couple of Feverfew leafs onto the wound before wrapping the bandage around.

“Thank you Eliana” Mitch smiles as I round all the things up to put away, this reminding me I must head out to collect more herbs in case I need to do this again.

“Maybe we were wrong about you, you seem to be alright after all” the girl from before says with her arms crossed, I send her a sweet smile before rising to my feet.

“I could still do with some company though” the same guy from before smiles with a wink, I roll my eyes walking past him and up the stairs.

Maybe things aren’t going to be as bad as I once thought here. With that thought I arrive at the top of the stairs, where Harvey stood leaning up against the wall with his head down.

“I heard what happened down there, I knew as soon as they saw what an incredible person you are even without a wolf, they’ll have no choice but to love you” he says sending me a tiny smile before looking down at the ground once more, I also smile coming to a stop in front of him.

“Maybe things aren’t going to be as bad as we thought staying here” I smile joining him leaning up against the wall, he sighs shaking his head a little.

“We shouldn’t have to be here making do, we should be at home with father and….Jacob” he says a single tear escaping his eye and dropping onto the carpet below, I reach over and take his hand in mine “every time I close my eyes I see Jacob laying there, against that tree knowing there was nothing I could do to help him” he says beginning to cry on the spot, he holds tightly onto my hand and leads me away from the wall and in the direction of his new bedroom.

“I can’t let these people see me cry” he says closing his door behind us, he places his back against it just allowing the tears to flow.

“Everyone will understand Harvey, you’ve just lost your father and twin brother, Jacob alone would be so hard to deal with” I say trying to make him see that his feelings are valid, but he shakes his head.

“For you Eliana yes, but I’m the only son left from father. I need to prove what a strong man he raised me to be, breaking down will just prove to everyone what they thought of father and our pack” he tells me sitting down on his bed with his head in his hands, I walk over sitting beside him as he cried “these people are gonna see how strong we actually are, you and I are gonna win back that pack for father and Jacob, but that’s only if you want to” he says looking up at me wiping his tears away, which only resulted in more tears falling.

“You know I’ll always have your back, we’re gonna make Alpha Thomas pay for everything he’s put us through” I smile where he nods his head pulling me in for a hug, at least we have each other.

It was early the next morning, the whole night I was helping Harvey feel better and coming up with our plan to make Alpha Thomas pay. Everyday that I have been here I’ve always dreaded dinner, but last night was the total opposite. I sat beside Mitch we repeatedly thanked me for helping him, while the other pack members spoke with me so kindly and apologised for the way in which they treated me.

I was alone in the pack house this morning, everyone was at training where I was told I wasn’t allowed to attend. Due to my wolf not waking up yet, I was told it would be dangerous and probably a huge waste of time if I were to go. Whilst cleaning I go into the kitchen where I found a little wicker basket, I could use this time to gather more herbs from the pack. I finish up cleaning before venturing out the pack house and head towards the more forest area. It was warm day today, so I wore a summer dress that one of the girls kindly gave me.

I begin to round up all the amazing herbs I could find, my basket was nearly full to the very top with them, these will last be ages! I get to my feet looking around the peaceful wood, the sound of nature just feeling my senses where for once, I felt calm and at ease. I was about to start my journey home, when a intoxicating smell of pine nuts fills my senses. I frantically look around to see where this smell was going from, but couldn’t see anyone or anything. My body began to work on its own and follows where the smell was leading me. That’s when I saw it, laying near a tree was a red wolf. M

I race over to the wolf where it lay motionless, this only reminding me of my fathers last moments. I place the basket down taking a deep breath in, the intoxicating smell of pine nuts takes over my senses once again. My eyes scan the wolf for a few seconds, I have never seen a red wolf in my entire life. If I’m being honest, I didn’t even know they existed. I take ahold of him where sparks soon erupt through my arm, trying to ignore that I pull him over to face me where his eyes open slightly. As I look down at him our eyes meet immediately, causing me to melt slightly under him. His bright green eyes felt as though they were looking into my soul, they were absolutely breath taking.

“My names Eliana, I promise I’m going to help you anyway I can” I smile kindly at him before taking a look down at his injuries, I wasn’t going to let this one die too.
