Though her parents haven't talked with her for 6 years, her father keeps checking on her using private investigators. Max also talks about Alayna and tells them how she is doing and what are the things they are missing out on by leaving her alone. For the past years, Max had been trying to reunite his family. He wanted them to forget about the past and live with each other happily. Alayna's father is more reluctant and doesn't want to talk to her or meet her. However, her mother wants to meet her but can't disobey her husband.

As Justin was growing older, he started showing curiosity about his family members other than his mom and his uncle Max. He asks Alayna about his father and grandparents, but she doesn't answer him properly and tries not to talk about them. Alayna told him that his father works abroad, and his grandparents are not willing to meet them because of some issues. Justin doesn't believe in all these stories he wants to know more about them.

When Justin was a toddler, Max did not play with him, he tried avoiding him. Max would ask Alayna about him but with time Justin started growing on him, his lovely nature melted Max's heart. Now, whenever Max visits him he brings toys for him and takes him out to parks.

Alayna's mother is a very kind person, and she loves her daughter a lot. Since Alayna left the house, she did not go to any parties or talk much with anyone. She just kept herself bound to her home. She asks Max about Alayna and tells him that she wants to meet her, but her husband gets outraged at the mention of her, and she does not want to cause any trouble and ruin their relationship.

One day Justin was playing in the house when he went to search the attic for toys. While searching he saw a box covered in dust, he blew off the dust and opened it, he found his mother's photographs with her parents and friends inside it. He also found Alayna's journal. He sat near the window where the sunlight was gushing in from outside, he opened the diary and started reading it. While reading it he came to know how his mother had been suffering alone for all these years and when she needed her family the most, they put a blind eye on her and how was her life before that incident.

Justin did not get what happened to her and why she left her house because Alayna did not mention it properly and as a six-year-old his vocabulary and reading skills are limited. He did not get to know about that incident which made him curious as to what changed everything, he started searching for other stuff in the attic to find out more about it. He wanted to meet his grandparents, but he could not ask Alayna because he knew that it would make her sad.

When Max came to see them on the weekend Justin told him that he wanted to meet his grandparents. Max told him that he cannot meet them until his mother approves it because she does not want him to meet them due to some complications. Justin insisted that he won't tell her, he begged to let him meet his grandparents for once.

Max agreed to take him to meet his parents, Justin became happy, and he hugged him. "I promise Uncle Max", he said with twinkling eyes. "I will not tell mom about it, and you won't regret taking me to grandpa and grandma's.
