Chapter 2

The cheer, jitters and laughter that had filled the bus earlier quickly turned into utter chaos and panic

The bus driver was the first to run away, he was old enough to had experience the 'big hit'.

We all quickly got out the bus and started running, Ivy just in front of me, Jake behind me. it was utter chaos out here too. People who were fleeing did not think twice about stepping on helpless people who were on the ground.

Me being the good samaritan I was, helped anyone I could.

"Weylen, what are you doing? Ivy asked as she stretched her hand out to me.

"Helping people out"

"Help yourself first before helping other people, we need to get out of here"

"And go where exactly? we don't know if there are already zombies wherever we are running to. They might be behind us, ahead of us, or even beside us" I said

"we can't do anything else aside run, you know that" Ivy said breathlessly. She is not the most fit person.

Alright she is not fit at all.

"We need to find a way to get out of the city, who knows, it might have only affected the east side of idle isle. If we can make it to the South before dark, we might be safe" I said to Ivy who was still holding my hand tightly.

Ivy suddenly stopped running which also made me stop

"what are you doing?"

"What if this is all a prank made by someone and we're actually running away from nothing. To think of it, we didn't see any zombie, did we?"

She was right, but.....

An ear piercing growl was heard behind us.

"let's go " Jake who suddenly was beside us said urgently.

But we were stuck.

A man....beast...zombie... whatever it looked like, was having the feast of his life as he bit deep into a child's stomach. There was blood pooling out of the little girl. Who I guess is the mother, was beating hard on the zombie head, while crying profusely.

The zombie being done with the girl, bit on the mother's neck.

I felt a slap on my back, followed by two other slaps.

"What are you guys doing? RUN!" Ms. Mabel yelled at us.

We didn't think twice, before sprinting for our lives.

We ran to the point where it felt like we were dying.

Ivy was a mess, with tears rolling down her face while she clutched her side.

"We should hide in one of these cars for the meantime, and find the others" ms. mabel said.

I can't believe she's still thinking about all her students instead of thinking about herself.

I was surprised she came back for us knowing that she could get hurt.

"In movies and books I've read about zombies, it's says that zombie has a strong sense of smell and hearing. They literally hear our heartbeats and smell us from a mile away and they are strong enough, if in groups, to break the car window" Jake said.

Is that true?

"So hiding in a car is pointless, we should rather look for a really high building and try to get to the rooftop or something. I've seen people's do it in movies" Jake finished.

"All right, let's go" Ms. Mabel who has been looking behind this whole time said.

"I ... can't....anymore" Ivy breathed out.

"Well you have no choice" Ms. Mabel said as she grabbed her hand and we starting making our way through the endless road filled with abandoned cars, trucks and bikes.

We heard a loud growl not far behind making us increase our already fast pace.

Just then, we were met with an uncompleted building. where some people were already going in to hide.

"We should hide there before someone pass out " our teacher said while looking at Ivy who was heavily breathing while being dragged by her.

It brought a tiny smile to my face

We quickly made our way to the building. it's an almost complete building just missing the final touches, like paint, windows, and just some touch up here and there.

We entered what seemed like the lobby and quickly made our way to the stairs. it was a four storey building. We climbed our way to the last floor , where they were doors installed in all the rooms.

Perfect.

I tried the first door knob but it was locked, and a series of muffled screams followed.

I tried the second and the third, same thing.

Only one left.

It's locked....But utter silence

"let's knock" Ms. mabel said.

Then she knocked.

No response.

"Anyone in there?"

"Ms. Mabel?" our class president asked from the other side of the door

Cue sigh of relief.

Too soon.

Just then we heard hurried drunk like steps coming towards us.

I took a peeked down the stairs, and a group of grunting, growling, blooded zombies were making their way up....and fast. Too fast.

"Ashley open the door quickly, they are behind us" Ms. mabel said to our class president who did not so quickly open the door.

She sure too her time as if weary.

"move aside" Jake said and he pushed her out of the way and quickly open the door wider for us all to go in.

Just then the zombies appears on the last flight of stairs where they could all see us.

We literally vanished into the room and locked the door behind us.

Three...

Two...

One.....

The loud hungry zombies all banged the door, hit the wall, as if pleading with us to come out, so they can feed.

Not happening zombies.

Not happening.

They banged at the door for long, before hovering around.

We could still hear their heavy footsteps as they dragged their feet against the floor, grunting and growling.

"Is everyone okay?" our teacher asked everyone.

"Yes ma'am"

"Who's this?" I asked the stranger in the midst.

"Don't know, We all just ran in here together"

We all sat on the floor to catch our breath. It was clean in here.

It was silent for a while before the stranger in here started coughing.... coughing out blood.

"Are you okay sir?" Our class president asked

"I feel weird" he croaked out

In movies, this is when bad things happen.

His cough got worse and some strange smell started coming off him.

I told you, this is where bad things happen.

My classmates all got weary and started moving back from him.

He clutched his chest while rolling on the floor....then he let out a loud scream before going quiet and still.

"was he bitten?"

"I didn't see any bite mark, did you?"

"No"

They all asked amongst themselves.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Ivy clutching Jake really hard....and too close.

I quickly averted my eyes.

"shouldn't we do something?" a classmate of mine asked, I think his name was louis or something.

"I think we should get him out"

"What if he wasn't bitten and we get him out there and he actually gets bitten"

"when he wakes up and he's a zombie, I'll feed you to him first"

I just watched them argue amongst themselves

"We should get him out" Ms. Mabel finally said

"How" Jake asked carefully peeling Ivy off him.

"we obviously can get him out through the door, so....." She clicked her tongue in the direction of the window.

"But he'll die" Ivy said and we all raised our eyebrows at her.

"Come boys, let's pick him up"

We picked him up and his smell almost killed us, we had just gotten to the window frame, when we heard cracking bones. We looked at each other and quickly tried to throw him off the window.

We couldn't.

He held us tightly while his bones continued doing whatever weird thing it was doing.

We could hear the scream of the girls....and the few boys behind.

I was scared.

Scared for my life

He finally let go and fell on the ground

Cue sigh of reliefs.

We all backed away but Jake remained.

"I have to push him out"

"I'll help you " I decided to join

The now turned zombie growled at Jake and advance towards him with bloody red eyes, and saliva coming out his mouth.
