Lost

(Past)

(Traytora POV)

I can't remember the last time I woke up and wasn't cold. I do know that I had been here for about two years or so now. The only thing I ever saw when I opened my eyes was white, a blank, unending expanse of white snow.

I look to the left of me, where my only friend, Shirayaa, who was also a Nagi, was sleeping, shivering because we weren't supposed to be here.

(More Past)

We had found some ancient ruins in a small oasis, well, we call it small but that's because we've been to a few medium and even a large one's before, all of which were in some sort of sealed realms, only accessible to those native of the desert.

Inside of the actually secret, secret realm, as this realm looked overgrown, even for an oasis. We explored the realm, finding an ancient grey stone temple, overrun with vines and shrubbery that covered its walls. With smiles on our faces and our peals of laughter ringing and echoing out in the empty forest.

We delved deep into the ruinous temple like structure, playing around, having fun, not caring about anything and just having a good time.

But that was the worst mistake of our life.

We kept on venturing into the ruined temple, exploring and marvelling at the way it was built and guessing what it was used for. But when we were slithering across the floor, it fell apart and led into a pit, making the both of us be plunged into the pit of darkness below us.

At some point Shirayaa woke up and healed me of a head injury that I apparently had. Which, if it wasn't treated in time, would have led to my death.

I came to after being healed but had a minor headache from the remnants of said injury, which couldn't be healed from Shirayaa's healing spell.

After I came to, I lit a small fire in my hand so that we could see better in this unending darkness, but it didn't help much as all we saw was floor, then more darkness. Apparently, we were trapped in some sort of large room.

"W-which way should we go?" Shirayaa asked me.

"Umm..." I looked down at the floor, seeing what way the stone tiling was laid out and then pointed in a direction that was linear to the square tiles. "That way I guess."

We travelled for what felt like hours without end, across the same moss-covered stone floor, nothing appearing in sight. Tired we decided to take a rest and sit down to think about how to tackle this situation.

With my fire magic we made a small makeshift fire pit using the rotting flora as kindle to start a proper fire so that I didn't exhaust my mana. We curled our tails together to help hold our warmth together as we brainstormed ideas on how to get out of this place.

"I think you should make a bigger fireball! That way we'll be able to see more!" Shirayaa suggested.

"But wouldn't that attract all of the monster that are here?" I asked, fear prevalent in my voice.

"Oh, stop worrying so much, it's not like there would be any here anyways, they probably either killed each other off and ate their corpse or died of either hunger or old age. Besides, even if there are monsters here, they shouldn't be able to kill us, I have danger sense and this place haven't given me any warnings of any kind."

"Yeah, but that skill only detects malicious intent, it can't detect traps." I retorted.

"Ugh, you always worry too much Traytora, c'mon, relax a little, this is supposed to be an adventure remember!" She said, trying to cheer me up.

"But I feel like something bad is going to happen the longer we stay down here, Shirayaa, I'm... I'm scared, I-I don't want to lose you too." Tears started coming out of my eyes as I said that last part.

I felt Shirayaa's body enveloping me in a hug, which made me hug her back, tightly. I'd lost too much for someone my age and I didn't want to lose her as well.

"Don't worry, we WILL get through this safe and sound, I promise."

I just leaned on her shoulder and cried letting out all my anxiety and distress.

I cried for almost roughly an hour before I managed to get myself together, and also because the fire went out.

"You good now?" She asked with a wry smile on her face, as this wasn't the first time I'd done something like this, in fact I've done it over a hundred times before, but I never seem to be capable of not crying, and I don't know why.

I nodded in response to her question.

"Good, then can you make that giant fireball for me then please?" She asked with a wide grin on her face, with her small fangs poking out.

"Fine." I begrudgingly gave in and poured some mana into a fake [Fireball] spell, which basically just made it so that it doesn't explode, and then adding even more fire mana to the spell to make the thing bigger, causing it to generate a lot more light, and also a lot more heat.

I then raised my hands into the air, making the fake [Fireball] begin to float upwards to reduce the amount of heat that it was generating, as, while it wasn't a real [Fireball], it was still made of fire so it still emanated heat.

As it got larger the higher it went, we could slowly see more of our surroundings, which was just the same as what we have already seen. Eventually I couldn't make it go higher, nor make it bigger as that would drain too much of my mana.

"Well, that was a waste of my mana, now what." I said dejectedly.

"The only thing we can do now, is keep moving forwards, not really anything else we can do really." She replied.

"Yeah, I guess you're right, though, should we maybe change directions?" I asked.

"Sure, I feel like we should go that way then." She said whilst pointing towards the right of where we were originally going.

We kept on travelling for a long time before we felt like we had gone far enough. I then dispelled the fake [Fireball] and we cuddled up together and fell asleep.
