Chapter Four: The Bar Buddy

*I answered "Officer Michaelson here, how can I help you"*

"This is Bobby Rogers. I'm here at 134 W 46th street. There is a body inside the male toilet of O'Brians. I don't know what to do so I just called you". The caller said. "Just close the toilets and make sure no one is in there nor gets in there. If anyone is there keep them there till I get there. Im on my way". I said to the caller and hung up. I called in "There is a dead body at O'Brians at 134 W 46th street. Has there been any call from William Hobbs?". "Hang on Dan, I will go and ask. I'll let you know as soon as I know anything" said Russel. "10-4 (message understood)" I said.

When I got there, I saw a male laying there. It was Cotton Matter. He is kinda known for us, he always gets drunk and start acting kinda crazy, but he is a good honest man. I do however drink with Cotton sometimes, I used to do it more in the past before I met my husband. I cheked his body for an ID. Male, 46, Cotton Matter. He does not have a lot of money because he spends it on alcohol, he work as a construction worker, and everyone knows him. He is kind and loved by everyone he knows. I taped police tapes on the bathroom door so no one would come in. Then I went to the bartender and said "You have to close it. The people that aren't done eating has to leave when they have finished, and no one can come in here." He just looked at me and nodded and annonced it on the speaker system. Dan come in do you copy? Russel said. Yes, I'm here. What do you got? I asked. There was a call coming in, match the prescription of the victim but no name confirmed or anything. He just said 'I killed him' and hung up. Said Russel. Thanks Liam. I'll let you know if I need any help. I said. Copy that. Said Russel.

When the bar finally closed, I could start with my investigation. I went to my car and got some gloves and I called on the team and the forensic to come. Normally I would have to wait till they get here before checking him, but I do not have time for that. I went into the bathroom and I saw him laying on the bathroom floor. There was blood scattered all around the bathroom. On every wall, all the bathroom stall doors, all the mirrors, it was a bloodpool around him, there were some blood on the middle sink and alot of sings of struggle, he alos is missing an eye. There is more wounds and bruises on his left arm with small puncture wounds covered in blood, and the bruises matches a bat, so it is most likely a wooden bat with nails in it. So I made a theoretical scenario.

*William was at the bar. Cotton went to the bathroom. William walks in after him and Cotton notice it and he turns around. Cotton looks at William and they start to fight; William pushes Cotton on the sink. Cotton hits his head and falls; Cotton is still awake trying to get up. Cotton tried to stop something from hitting him with his left arm. William stood over him as he punched him. Then William took up the bat and hit him again, this time straight in the stomach. Then he hits Cottons head, which ended up taking his eye away* With this theory I assume the murder happened right before closing. I said this to the forensic as I walked out of the bar to let them do their job.

I went back to the priecint and I looked at all the files. So, money is not one of the motives. However why would he kill them? I am trying to think like him, but it is hard because we have no information about him whatsoever. I looked through Cotton Matters file, he did not have any relatives left behind, he only have a lot of drunk friends, me included. Later I went back to the bar to question the workers. Can I see the security cameras? I asked. I would let you, but we don't have security cameras. But we have a list of everyone who walks in here. Is that to any help? The worker asked. Yes, it would be, can you check up if anyone came in with the name William Hobbs? I asked. Sure I'll be back in a minute. The worker said. Thanks, and would you mind bringin me a coffee afterwards? I asked. Sure thing. The workes said and left.

Some minutes went by and I was thinking about how to catch the killer, and who he is. Here is your coffee sir. And no I'm sorry there wasn't anyone with that name. I was working here though, do you have any picture of the guy maybe I'll recognize him. The worker said. No unfortunately I don't have that. Would you mind giving me the names on every worker and the people who was here between 11.30pm yesterday till today at 4am? I asked. Yes, here you go. The worker said as she handed me a list of names. Thanks for the help, and if you can come up with anything, here's my card. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Keep the change. I said as I gave her cash for the coffee.

I went away and sat down at a table while I was looking through the list. I started to question them one by one. I started to question the people who was already at the bar before going door to door. They all said about the same thing; "No I don't know if anyone would hurt him, he is a good guy" "He is amazing" "No I didn't see anything yesterday" "I left around 12 am" and so on. It started to get late and I know I have not been home with my husband and kids for a long time, so I called my captain and used the code 10-10A (off duty at home).

The next day (June 15th)

I wok up and went down stair and I sat down on the couch with my two daughters and I held around my husband. It was a good start of the weekend, and I also had a free day. I thought that today is all about my family. Then my work phone started to call. I mumbeled 'fuck' as I walked away from them.
