"What do you mean a scapegoat?" Rama enquired, taming her tone to sound less angered as possible but the burning rage in her jade eyes were visible.
"She'll be punished for every defiant act you portray, heed my words feisty princess, my punishments are very guttural, you wouldn't want your poor maid to be punished for your sins, would you?" He said with an intense daunting voice as a sly smirk cut through his lips before his hand flew to the back of her gold hair, yanking it hard enough for her head to fall back and a shrill cry of pain escaped from Malika's lips.
"Let go of her! I haven't done anything wrong!" Yet. Rama almost yelled but it managed to come out delicately.
After a few sadistic moments of enjoying the maid's pain he inflicted on her, he finally let go, scrutinizing every reaction of Rama.
'What a sadistic creep!' Rama spat out in her head furiously, if she could she'd tear him apart limb by limbs but unfortunately, no matter how much she imagined decapitating him, her reality was far from it.
He shoved Malika her way and the maid almost ran into Rama but she held her in balance while she sobbed softly in her embrace, body trembling like a leaf in a fierce storm.
"Enjoy your night princess, unfortunately, you'll go to sleep with an empty stomach, we don't have any human meals unless you'll join me in drinking blood, I'll be happy to share if you're being good." Draco said with a charming smile with melancholy brewing underneath it as his crimson red eyes gleamed darkly, appearing almost black as a result of lack of light.
"Thank you for your kind offer, but I'll have to decline." A forced smile grazed her lips as she spoke but he didn't reply afterwards, instead he scoffed darkly before disappearing from her sight along with the other vampire after locking the cell.
After she was sure they had left, her face twisted into a grim one as she paid attention to Malika who was sobbing endlessly in her hold and she patted softly on her back, guilt washing over her knowing she was at fault for the girl's plight, she was much better dead than in the mercy of the merciless night creatures.
"Malika are you all right?" She asked softly, even though she knew she wasn't, no one would in that situation.
Malika sniffed softly as she wiped the tears from her face frantically, before releasing herself from Rama's hold and straightening her skirts.
"I'm sorry your highness, I was just overwhelmed, I'm glad you're alive." Malika said with tears threatening to spill from the brim of her eyes but she blinked them back.
Rama's jaws ticked and her fists clutched her dirty shirt tightly.
"Don't ever call me that." She snapped.
"But you're.."
"I'm not a queen any longer, the empire has been laid to ruins, my people are dead and my title is void and meaningless, I have no empire to preside over, no people to rule. I'm no longer a queen I'm just Rama, the vampire king's prisoner." She emancipated on every word between gritted teeth in a flat tone, avoiding Malika's gaze as if she was Medusa but in reality she was overwhelmed with guilt and shame.
Rama slumped down to the cold floor, pressing her knees against her chest with fingers linked together tightly as her boy trembled unnervingly.
Malika crouched on the floor beside her in silence, not knowing what to say.
"It's all my fault, the vampire king is right, I'm a frivolous queen who acted foolishly and lead her empire and people to it's downfall, now I'm facing the bitter consequences of my action." Rama blurted out as she stared at the wall opposite her blankly.
"It's not your fault, whether you did something or not, the empire was next in their list. He made a statement with his latest destruction that we were next and you did a brave thing by standing up for the kingdom, you were a remarkable queen no matter how long it prevailed." Malika spoke softly and she managed to stare into her amber eyes for a moment without guilt.
She wondered if she was right, would doing nothing had yielded no difference whatsoever?
She could console herself with that thought that she wasn't an entirely horrible queen, but she couldn't help but ponder if it was the fate of the empire to fall immediately she was queen. If it was the fate of the Empire, then she would just have to accept it but if her fate was sealed as the vampire king's prisoner, that she could never accept.
She'd find a way to escape from the hell she was in even though she had to escape through death, it was a fate she could accept rather than being locked in a dungeon getting tortured by the vampire king for the rest of her life.
"The Empire's destruction might not be my fault, but it's my fault you're here." Rama said with guilt lingering in ever word she spoke and she saw Malika shaking her head vigorously for her golden chestnut hair to flail behind her as she did.
"It's not your fault, besides I'm glad I get to see you and you're alive and well." Malika said with a genuine smile crossing her pale pink lips.
"Not for long, the vampire king will make sure he turns our lives to hell, we have to escape from it, I can't let you suffer." Rama said with a sharp tone, jade eyes peering into Malika's with dread.
"But how do we escape? They are night creatures at every corner, we won't make it out of the dungeon before they take our heads off." Malika whispered in anxiousness as she fiddled nervously with the hem of her skirt.
"We're not actually escaping, we have no choice but to depart from this world or we'll forever be at their mercy, we can't leave that way." Rama implied fiercely and she saw Malika's eyes widen in petrification.
"What?! We can't, we still have hope." Malika said almost yelling but she immediately gained composure and lowered her voice.
"What hope? Everything we ever knew has been destroyed, everyone we ever cared for has been slaughtered and if we do manage to escape, where do we run to? We have no home to go back to, it's all ashes now. There's no hope or redemption, it's been stripped away Malika, the faster you realise this, the better you'll understand."
Rama's words almost choked her as hot tears threatened to spill from her jade eyes but she didn't hold them back and instead she let them fall freely on her cheeks before wiping it off with her sleeve.
Malika stared at her for a second before speaking after she regained her composure.
"But all isn't hopeless, we still have the Alpha king, I believe he'll come to save you if he hears of what transpired in our kingdom. I'm sure he wouldn't just leave you as prisoner to the vampire king." Malika said with a hopeful voice, eyes slightly widened with faith in her words.
"That would be a very foolish thing to do, risking his life and kingdom to save me, don't fret over it, I'm not that important." Rama said between gritted teeth as she scoffed in disbelief.
She had grown infatuated with him, but the same couldn't be said for him, she wasn't that important for him to search for her and rescue her, besides he wouldn't know she was taken as a prisoner, so she still couldn't place her hop in him or anyone else, hope as it was was a dead word to her, it didn't exist in her life anymore.
"Yes you are." Malika said.
"No I'm not! There's no hope and no redemption, no ones coming to save us and if we do nothing, we'll die as bloody rag dolls." Rama hissed out in rage, a rage that had been overwhelming her and eating her up piece by piece until it eventually burst out.
Malika merely stared at her in perplexity but she saw her eyes well up with tears.
"I'm sorry but I am right. Don't place your hope on anyone or you'll be utterly disappointed with the outcome." Rama said with a low voice, sadness engulfing her jade eyes before resting her head on the wall in exasperation.
