Scheming Moves

"Wait, how come you're here?" Lily was dumbfounded by Janice's rescue. Wasn't she the one being chased?

"Yeah, but Uncle's in the hospital right now. So, I had to step in for him. I mean, I've got some skills," Janice said, shaking the injured shotgun as she spoke.

"Who sent you?"

"The Principal."

"The Principal?" Lily found it hard to believe.

"You didn't know? She's one of the big shots."

"Yeah, I knew, but why would No.1 take orders from the Principal?"

"He's undercover as a cop now. You know, trying to make things right and all."

"Okay, got it... Can I borrow the shotgun?"

"Hey! Borrow? More like you're grabbing it."

Lily toyed with the shotgun in her hands, then suddenly pointed the barrel forward. With a quick palm slap to the back of the gun, it shot forward, knocking down the wall in front.

"Alright, just took out the sniper who wanted you dead. Situation resolved," Lily clapped her hands.

"...Okay, what did you just do?" Janice just had to ask.

"I just calculated the wind force needed to smash through the wall, then used that force around the gun with the wind, and then, bam! Shot it out," Lily explained.

"Don't make it sound so casual. This is getting scarier."

They both burst into laughter.

BI, BI, BI, BI...

Gordon struggled to open his eyes, everything around him was super bright. He blinked like three times, tears even came out, and finally, he could see clearly.

All he could see were white curtains, and the bed was white too. He looked down, and there was a drip tube stuck to his hand, and the bag was hanging on the EKG monitor nearby.

Gordon tried to sit up, but the pain was like, "Nope." He rested his head on the pillow, just staring at the empty ceiling.

Then he heard this cute snoring sound. He turned his head, and Gray was knocked out, eyes shut tight, breathing all calm.

"Hey." Gordon gave her a pat with his stiff hand.

"Hmm... Ah! You're up!" Gray's eyes went from half-asleep to wide awake in a second.

"What are you doing here?"

"Keeping an eye on you, obviously."

"Watching for two whole nights?"

"Yep, two nights."

"Thanks, you're a trooper."

"No problem." Gray flashed a smile, a really nice one, though not as nice as Elena's.

...Wait, why did Elena pop into his head?

Gordon shook his head, trying to kick Elena out of his mind. But her smile was stuck there, and now he's blushing without even realizing it.

"Blushing, huh? Is it 'cause you find me attractive?" Gray laughed even more.

"Shut up." Gordon closed his eyes, just trying to zone out.

"Is No.1 in there?" Aoba School's principal, the one where Lily goes, stood by the hospital room door, talking to a nurse.

"Yep, come on in." The nurse swiped her card on the screen next to the door, and it slid open.

"Hey, Valentine." A guy with a goatee was sitting in a chair, giving her a nod.

"You're looking better, Michael." Valentine checked out the goatee guy and then settled on the bed.

"Yeah, thanks for the good vibes." Michael waved casually.

"Why'd you want to see me?"

"Oh, just a little favor." Michael pointed to the collar around his neck.

"You wanna get rid of it?"

"Nah, just tweak it a bit."

"You know we can't do that."

"But you saw the situation, I almost pushed her into the jaws of danger."

"But I can't do that."

"You have to, unless you can find someone to replace me, that girl's definitely gonna die."

Valentine frowned, 'cause there's no way someone could replace the No.1 in front of her.

Michael's grin got wider.
