Visit to the Headmaster

-----Kaede's POV

Everything seems to be moving so fast ever since I've reunited with Yui. All I wanted right now was to run away with her, but instead it looks like I'm going to try to enroll in the Inasdale Academy. Luna said it's possible, but I still have my doubts.

We all got ourselves ready as I go to exit the inn we've been staying at.

Sicily: "Good luck!"

Lillian: "You've got this."

Kaede: "Thanks guys-"

The sisters gave me their prayers when suddenly, Mell came barging through them, running straight into my waist.

Mell: "You better come see me when you can!"

Kaede: "Yes yes. I'll visit you guys whenever I have time. Also I still don't know if I'll be allowed to enter so you might see me back soon hehe"

Mell: "Good!"

I couldn't help but laugh as I pat her head whilst she hugs me. I recall our conversation from last night, thinking about actually being Mell's adopted mother. I'm not entirely opposed to it, but either way I made a promise to myself that I will come to see them when I can. After some time in our hug, she pulls away from me as she goes back to join Sicily and Lillian, leaving me with Yui and Luna ready to leave.

Kaede: "Stay safe."

Sicily/Lillian/Mell: "We will~"

I do worry about their plan on looking for jobs. They're elves so if they're not careful then they might get thrown back into slavery or even outright killed, but they seem confident so I'll see how they manage. Yui takes my hand with hers as we head on out towards the academy.

Things have gotten a lot less awkward now with Luna, however a part of me still can't help but be jealous of her. She's spent like a decade with Yui, whereas I've just spent a year dating her. That part of me is scared of what might happened between the two of them.

Yui: "Who do we talk to regarding our plan with Kaede?"

Luna: "Lucien would be our best bet."

Yui: "Lucien?"

Luna: "Our headmaster"

Yui: "Ah right~"

Even this small talk that they are having makes my heart shake. Yui seems really calm and relaxed around her...

-----Yui's POV

This is amazing, if Kaede can attend the academy everything will be perfect. Glancing over at Kaede, I noticed she was looking quite uncomfortable while we were walking, so I give her hand a gentle squeeze, interlocking our fingers together.

Yui: "Nervous?"

Kaede: "Ah- Yeah."

Yui: "You use light magic right? I'm sure you'll get in just on that alone. You'll be fine"

Luna: "Yeah, light magic users tend to have special treatment in Inasdale since they are usually scouted to join the royal army. So since you're around our age I'm sure they'll let you in."

Kaede: "Mmm. I hope so."

Seeing a smile appear on her face alleviates my worries. I remember when I had to take the end of year exams back in our old world. I was too focused on P.E that I always felt a ton of stress when it came to those exams, however Kaede helped me with studying so it wasn't all that bad. Actually now that I'm looking at Kaede, wasn't I taller than her back then? It was clear to me now that she's now my height, making Luna the shortest one amongst us.

Eventually, we arrive back at the academy's gates. It was still the afternoon so they were open for us to enter. Approaching the entrance to the main building we were met with one of the teachers as they stop us.

Teacher: "Sorry, who's this?"

Yui: "She'd-"

Kaede: "I'd like to join the academy."

Teacher: "Sorry, registrations are-"

She gently let go of my hand to then raise it, conjuring up a small yet bright ball of light. It was the same magic that Leon used, however looking at Kaede's I can't help but think back on whether or not Leon's was like this. Looking at the teacher in front of us, his face was filled with amazement as he watched Kaede's little demonstration before she dispels her magic. Even I was in awe as I was left speechless.

Teacher: "I- I'm not the person that can admit you to this academy. But I can take you to Headmaster Lucien if you like? Normally I would dismiss you. But the year has just started so you may have a chance. If you can please follow me."

I was ecstatic, however Kaede was not clear yet. She still needed to talk with Lucien, so I try and not get my hopes up. Luna and I go to follow the teacher along with Kaede until he comes to a halt.

Teacher: "Oh did you two need to see Lucien as well?"

Yui: "Ah... No, but we're- friends with Kaede."

Teacher: "Well you two can wait outside the Headmaster's door. I'm sure it won't be long if this person is 'the' Kaede."

Kaede: "You've heard of me?"

Teacher: "The famous young adventurer? Yes. If you are the same person then I'm sure your admittance will be a quick one."

I couldn't help but grab hold of Kaede's arm as we interlock our arms together at the sudden news during our walk to the headmaster. It felt like all my worries of Kaede not getting in had disappeared after hearing what the teacher had said.

Yui: "I'm glad."

Kaede: "Me too."

We say to each other in a soft tone as I feel her arm tightening up around mine, bringing me closer as we walk shoulder to shoulder. Looking to my left I saw Luna keeping her distance, seeming to not want to join us as I grab hold of her hand with my free hand, giving her a smile as she gives one in return. I know Luna said she's fine with me finding Kaede, but I worry she's just saying that to not make me worry.

Teacher: "We're here. You 3 please wait here."

He goes inside alone, closing the door behind him as the 3 of us sit at one of the benches near the door. Suddenly the nerves were brought back to me as if I was the one about to be interviewed as I go to squeeze Kaede's hand, almost reassuring myself in a way before the door opens again.

Teacher: "Kaede. You can come in."

I let go of her hand as she sit up to head towards the door.

Kaede: "Wait for me okay?"

Yui: "Will do!"

She smiles at me before heading into the headmaster's room along with the teacher, the nerves returning once more as I could feel Luna had grabbed hold of my other hand.

Luna: "She'll be fine. She's got this"

Yui: "Mmm"

-----Kaede's POV

Walking inside, I could see a large desk towards the back with an old man sitting behind it. Somehow I could feel pressure coming from him, sensing that he's quite powerful. It reminded me of when I had fought Oboris in a way.

Lucien: "Welcome Kaede. Julius said to me that you wanted to enroll in my academy?"

Kaede: "Yes. I'm sorry for not being able to attend with the rest of the students, I was quite busy with-"

Lucien: "No no you're fine. It is only the start of the year so there shouldn't be a problem in that regard. However I will need to confirm some things with you. May I see your guild card?"

Kaede: "Yes."

I reach into my bag to pull out my guild card before giving it to Lucien to inspect.

Lucien: "And could you give me a demonstration of your magic?"

I conjure up the same ball of light that I showed the teacher earlier before dispelling it moments later.

Lucien: "Magnificent- You seem to have quite a lot of control over your magic. Here."

He gives me back my guild card as I put it back into my bag where I could see Lucien had now taken an interest in it as I see his eyes darting over to my bag.

Lucien: "Is that an endless bag?"

Kaede: "Oh I'm unsure of the name, it was given as a gift. It can hold a large quantity of things."

Lucien: "Those are incredibly rare. The mages who made them long ago all died with no one able to create more. Whoever gave you that must care quite a lot of you."

Kaede: "Yes. My family gave it to me."

Memories of Fleur and Faye pop in my head as I imagine them bantering with each other while taking care of Silver. I really do miss them, and if I get enrolled in this academy then that'll be even more time away from them. I'll make sure to send letter to them soon.

Lucien: "Well Kaede, I don't see an issue with you enrolling in my school. I can sort out the details today, so what class would you like to take?"

Kaede: "Oh uhm. What classes are there?"

Lucien: "Ha! I thought you would already know that."

Kaede: "Well actually I only came to know of this academy quite recently so I don't know that much."

Lucien: "Well there's the knight class which focusing more on hand to hand combat, specialized magic class which is centered around spell casting. We also have technicians which basically focus on creating runes with some sub-classes focusing more on summoning magic to create beings such as constructs. Alchemy classes are also available here if you'd like to learn how to create things that can boost your magic or other's. Oh also the classes are chosen per year so if you didn't like one class you can change it the year after."

This was a lot to unpack, I just thought magic was just throw it at the bad guys and job done. Giving it some thought I would find it silly to take the magic class since I'm already well versed in that aspect. I then recall the golem I fought while rescuing that man and woman. The idea of creating something like that seemed appealing to me, but I'm still unsure about everything.

Kaede: "..."

Lucien: "Tell you what. I can give you some time to choose your class. Since you're unaware, I think it might be best to spend this upcoming week going to each class. Then the week after you can decide. Sounds good?"

Kaede: "Yes! Thank you very much!"

I bow my head to Lucien for his generosity. To be honest I wanted to try them all out as there might even be some magic that I'm unaware of, and thinking that my magic could become even stronger fills my body with excitement.

Lucien: "Right, then I'll notify the teachers. Welcome to Inasdale Academy. Speak to the dorm mother for your living arrangements, your friends outside can show you the way there."

Kaede: "Thank you headmaster"

Bowing my head once more, I turn back around to exit the room, joining back with Yui.
