"Taylor, are you deaf?" Mia sneered. "Do you still think you're the high and mighty Ms. Taylor from the past? Now you're just a convicted murderer who spent five years in prison. Everyone on the street would beat you up like a rat crossing the street. Who do you think you are to act tough in front of me?" The more Mia spoke, the more agitated she became. In the midst of her words, she suddenly grabbed Jessica's hand and dragged her towards the staircase.
"Ahhh --" a sharp scream rang out.
Jessica thought Mia was going to push her down the stairs and quickly grabbed the handrail. But to her surprise, with a thud, it was Mia who fell down the stairs.
The hallway was very close to the banquet hall, and such a loud noise could not have gone unnoticed.
Jessica was still stunned and hadn't reacted yet when the door to the hallway suddenly burst open, and William and his entourage appeared before her.
"Mia!" William called out the name loudly. He then looked at Jessica, his charming eyes filled with an unbelievable rage. The next second, he quickly went downstairs and held Mia in his arms. There was a large pool of blood where Mia had fallen.
"William --" Mia weakly said while lying in his arms. "It was Jessica Taylor. She--she pushed me."
"It wasn't me! She fell down by herself, I didn't push her!" Jessica explained, gasping for a breath. She couldn't believe that Mia was distorting the truth.
However, as if to deepen her guilt, Mia moved his lips but was unable to say anything before he fainted.
"Get a car ready! Now!" William angrily ordered the bodyguards. He gazed at Jessica, each word seeming to have exhausted all his strength. "Take Jessica Taylor with me!"
"I'm not going! Mr. Davis, you have no right to have me taken away when I didn't push her," Jessica said with fear and despair in her eyes. She struggled desperately, but how could she, a fragile woman, resist the strong bodyguards? In no time, she was forced onto the car.
The luxury car raced all the way to the hospital. As soon as they arrived, Mia was rushed to the emergency room, and the diagnosis was shocking to everyone -- she suffered a head injury that caused retinal detachment and resulted in blindness!
Emily rushed over and happened to hear the doctor's diagnosis. She grabbed Jessica and said, "Taylor, you have brought enough trouble for our family. Now you even harmed Mia. You need to go to jail right now. We will not let you off easily this time. We will do whatever it takes to make you spend the rest of your life behind bars!"
The words "go to jail" deeply stimulated Jessica's nerves. She never wanted to experience those five years of hell again.
"She didn't fall because of me! It wasn't me," Jessica repeated this sentence in a low voice. In fact, she had repeated it countless times on the way here. "I didn't touch her!"
"What can be done to cure her?" William asked the doctor anxiously with his veins slightly bulged.
"corneasl transplantation can be performed, but the corneas in the corneasl bank are scarce at the moment, and there are no corneas suitable for Ms. Hughes' transplantation," the doctor answered.
Emily remembered something and immediately pushed Jessica in front of the doctor, and said, "Transplant hers! Her blood type matches with Miss Mia's, and the corneas must be able to be successfully matched!"
Jessica couldn't believe what she heard for a moment. Endless panic spread from the bottom of her heart. Her corneas...was going to be transplanted to Mia Hughes?
And what made her even more desperate was that as long as William gave the order, no one would help her at all.
She had nothing to begin with, and now, she was going to lose her eyes!
The doctor found his words hard to believe.
