"William, say something," Emily said as she grabbed William's arm in anxiety. "If it wasn't for Jessica Taylor intentionally pushing her down the stairs, Mia would never have gone blind. When you owe someone a debt, you have to repay it. It's only fair that one pair of eyes should be compensated with another pair of eyes. Do you want Mia to be blinded for life like this?"
William remained silent, his breathing gradually becoming rapid and his nice lips pursed into a line.
It was true that one pair of eyes should be compensated with another pair of eyes, it was only fair.
This had always been his way of doing things, but --
He couldn't help but look towards Jessica.
William's mind was filled with memories of the past, when she used to chase after him, calling him "Willy" with a bright smile on her face. She smiled so beautifully, as if her eyes were filled with the most beautiful stars in the night sky.
But he didn't understand why this woman always refused to repent, why destroying the Davis family wasn't enough for her, why she had to destroy Mia Hughes?
What did she really want? Kill William?
"Mr. Davis, it's not me," Jessica's body couldn't stop retreating, stumbling and trying to escape. "I didn't touch her. I will never donate my eyes to her. Mom, Dad, save me -- save me --"
She shouted hoarsely, but more and more despair was overwhelming her. She had cut off all ties with the Taylor family five years ago, vowing to never have any contact with them again.
She had nothing left, no parents, no home, she was like a wandering ghost in the world, so who could come and save her?
"Get her!" Emily gave the order and several bodyguards immediately stopped the fleeing Jessica and escorted her to the operating room.
Finally unable to hold it in any longer, she burst into tears and her sobs echoed throughout the hospital corridor.
"Mr. Davis, you can't treat me like this," Jessica cried out, "I was wrong in the past. I shouldn't have chased after you or broken you and Mia Hughes up. But I never pushed her or made her go blind.
"I gave up on you when I came out of prison. I told myself that I would never love you again, and that I would stay far away from you and never appear in front of you. I was so foolish, thinking that you and your families would forgive me after all the punishment on me."
What she owed was a life, a precious life.
Now, she owned Mia Hughes' eyes.
The sound of crying was like a pair of invisible hands, choking people's hearts. William clenched his fists, the knuckles already turning white. Just as he was about to stop it, a voice interrupted him.
"Mr. Davis," behind William came a male voice, calling out his name.
William turned around and squinted, only to find that it was David.
David rushed over and saw the scene, understanding everything.
He walked over and grabbed the tear-stained Jessica to his side. "Mr. Davis, the truth is still unclear. It doesn't seem reasonable to just replace the corneas, does it?"
William's gaze landed on Jessica's action of tightly holding onto David's clothes, and an indescribable emotion flashed through his eyes. There seemed to be a fire hidden in his heart, and if he stared for a few more seconds, it would explode.
William sneered, "Unreasonable? I'm afraid Mr. Thompson doesn't know that no one dares to say this word to me in New York City."
Everyone knew that in New York City, William Davis was a god.
David's expression remained unchanged, but he said, "Of course I know that, but would you do me a favor and release my fiancée if I promise to find a corneas for Ms. Hughes myself?"
