Lost amidst the shadowy expanse of the forest, Miller had vanished from Lando's sight. The distinct aroma of burning timber lingered in the air, and though veiled by the thick trees, plumes of smoke silently ascended skyward. But, in that moment, the encroaching fire was the least of Lando's concerns.

He surged to his feet, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in his injured leg. The massive black bear, its breathing heavy and deliberate, shifted its menacing gaze to him. Lando's fingers instinctively clasped the hilt of his sword, poised to draw it. He held the bear's gaze, slowly retreating. "Easy now," he whispered, his voice quivering betraying his palpable fear.
