UNLUCKY

Julie sniffled. "Why did you show me the picture?" She readjusted the duvet she covered herself and Monica with.

"Because I wanted you to know where you really stand with them."

"At least I already know I was nothing but a tool and dummy to the both of them."

"Those people are the definition of heartless." Monica added. "They never saw you as a human being but a money making machine. Those pests, they lived off you for years."

"Because I was an idiot." She pulled the duvet off her body and turned on the television. "They were allowed to that because I gave them the chance to."

"I think you now know you don't trust people one hundred percent, people are wicked and heartless." Monica paused. "But that doesn't mean you shouldn't relate to people at the same time-"

"Oh please." Julie interrupted her. "After all I have been through? Relate to people or trust them? That's not possible."

"That John guy, he seems to like you."

"Why are you talking about him now?" Julie folded her legs on the couch.

"I'm not lying, he came by the other day, and he was desperately looking for you, like he literally didn't look at any other lady."

"Which guy will like a girl he met at the brothel?"

"Yours might be different, just give him the chance, he looks wealthy too, and I am sure your appearance now will make him never want to go."

"How about the triplets?" Julie changed the topic.

"They are doing fine, but their demands keep going up every single day."

"Is that nagging I hear?" They giggled briefly.

"I mean, who am I to do so?" Monica shrugged her shoulders. "I live for just four people on earth."

Julie frowned. "The triplets and who?"

"And a dumb girl I knew the first day I started school."

The frown on her face was replaced with an hearty smile. "That's good to hear." Julie embraced her tightly and exhaled sharply. "At least, I have you by my side."

"You know, those times I always get jealous anytime you call Maria your best friend."

Julie drew herself from her and stared at her. "You wanted me to call you my best friend?"

"Obviously."

"You are my sister girl, you ain't no friend, after all these years? Over two decades? You joking?"

"Really?" Monica giggled and inhaled sharply. "I think I need a new life like you too."

"Why do you say that?"

"I am tired of this life I am living, running a brothel I inherited from my mom isn't how I wish to spend my days."

Julie sat properly and fixed her eyes on the television. "But what can you do? That is the only thing you know how to do to make money."

"I have to stop this honestly." She pulls the duvet and starts folding. "No man is thinking of me as a responsible lady."

"So you really want a man after all."

"Of course I do." Monica dropped the duvet and sat the way her friend was sitting. "I have plans on getting married and settling down now."

"I'm glad you finally changed your mind girl, you always ranted on how you hated men and didn't want to have anything to do with them."

"I'm not gonna lie, I once did, even after what Daniel did? It made me want to stab them when I see them."

Julie looked at her and chuckled. "They are the reason you haven't starved to death. They are ready to spend their last money at your brothel."

"Well, I am thankful for that."

Julie returned her eyes to the television and asked. "What about the savings account?"

"Well, thanks to you I have four different savings account, one for each of us."

"Glad you are smart enough to get yourself one too, you could use that for a clean start."

Monica looked at her. "Julie."

"Yes." The both of them locked eyes.

"Why do people like us keep facing the tougher part of life? Why do people like us keep getting unlucky with life?"

"That's because we were born unlucky, we inherited it from our moms, they were born naturally unlucky too." Julie held her hands. "If we don't rewrite history with our sweats and break this curse, our children and entire generations will be born naturally unlucky too."

"I am getting tired of life." Monica released her hands. "I am working extra hard at the brothel to meet up with my trust fund target on time, so I can focus on my life too."

"And find yourself a good man." She completed with a broad smile.

"There is someone I really like."

"Finally!" They giggled. "I knew someone or something changed your perspective about men, but I felt you weren't ready to talk about it."

"I can't lie to you for too long dear."

John ran into Diva as he rushed to the dining to get something to eat before going to the office. "You are still here?" He asked at the top of his voice.

"You really want me to leave? And you won't feel bad if I do?"

He frowned a bit. "Not like I am pushing you out, but you mentioned that yourself yesterday, didn't you?"

"Well, it's my choice to either leave or stay, you didn't bring me here, did you?" Diva asked again.

"Apparently, whoever brought you here is already tired of you."

Diva moved closer to him and smiled. "I'm a Patient soul, I'll wait for you."

"Waiting for my love or attention will be a total waste of time Diva, please go back home and start pursuing your acting career."

Her eyes widened. "You still remember that?"

"I didn't forget anything Diva, I remember every single lines of what we said and every scene of our moments."

"So why do you keep treating me bad?"

"I do not want you to experience any more emotional trauma." He walked away.
