Chapter 22: Escaping from danger

David spent the whole cab ride over trying to think of a way to get rid of her. He could lose her in the airport. That was risky. She’d only look for him. And if she went to the gate where his flight left from, she’d find out that he’d never boarded the plane.

He could get in a fight with her; make her leave hating him. She’d probably push him out of her head and never really think about him again. But he didn’t want to do that. The idea of never being able to talk to her again just didn’t sit well with him. His mind screamed, demanding to know why. He should sever all ties with her. She was too dangerous. But he lied to himself. She could be a useful contact in the future, someone in the FBI he could talk to, could use for information.

He could always get on the plane and just drive back to New York from wherever that flight went. Some kind of layover. It wasn’t good, but it might be the only option he had. Maybe something else would come to him.
