Chapter 49: An interruption

David’s eyes shot open as he heard the cars pulling in. He’d fallen asleep.

David rubbed his eyes and looked at his watch. Three seventeen. No one pulled in to a Motel at three seventeen in the morning.

He was awake.

David slid out of his chair and slithered to the window. One glance was all it took. Two vans. He rushed over to the bed and kneeled down near her head.

“Jessica! Jessica, wake up.” It was a whisper, but it was a harsh whisper. She grumbled and rolled over. “Jessica, you need to get up now.” She grumbled again. David reached out and put his hand on her arm. “There’s someone here. Your life is in danger.”

That got her attention. She suddenly remembered everything. Her eyes shot open. It was as if the memory of the evening had suddenly rushed back into her mind. David had to put his hand over her mouth to stop her from screaming out.
