Chapter 51: The shootout

He heard a shot go off. Then another. Those shots were coming from a distance, and they weren’t coming into the barn. The machine guns went off. They weren’t coming into the barn either. They were shooting away from it.

Towards the other car.

Collins.

Collins had fired two shots. That meant there were two fewer Russians waiting for him. Collins wouldn’t waste shots in this situation. Every one would count. Every one would kill. That was Collins.

David moved to the entrance of the barn. The Russians were hiding behind something outside. David couldn’t make it out in the dark, but it might have been some old farm equipment, rusted and grown over from lack of use.

Whatever it was, a bullet would slam into it every once in a while, between volleys from the five Russians still standing.
