“Yeah.” She gave him a hopeful smile. “I told you writers need thick skins. This is why. It’s not supposed to be easy, Steve. It’s part of the process. The worst part. Some people, when they start writing, never get beyond the first draft. They just want to write. They don’t bother to edit, so they write and never show anyone what they’ve done. They create, they put it on paper, and they lock the paper away, because the first draft wasn’t Tolstoy or Shakespeare or Twain. They don’t realize how long it took those people to edit their first drafts into what was eventually printed. They don’t know that it’s all part of the process.”
“Okay,” he said. “Let’s get to it then.”
She smiled at him. She leaned back in her chair. She didn’t have to wait long.
“What do I do?” Steve asked.
