Chapter 8, Selling and Shopping

At that time, they came from hanging out and he was drunk. Who knew that he would suddenly insult an old physician? As a result, the old man not only made him lose some of his cultivation level, he also ruined his foundation that he built with lots of effort. Then, he was driven from home as trash.

Fifteen minutes later, Li Jain arrived at the town market. The street was crowded with people. Unlike the village that was mostly quiet, the town was much busier and noisier. 

Li Jain finds his way among the crowd and asks for directions which lead him to the famous medicine shop. 

"Welcome to Everlasting Herbs Shop. What would you like, sir?" At the door of the shop, the worker respectfully greeted Li Jain. 

"Can I see your boss? I have some herbs for sale." 

The worker looked at Li Jain and the basket on his back. After confirming that a large amount of herbal medicine was inside, he led Li Jain to the backyard of the shop and asked him to wait. A moment later, a fat man came out. "Where are the items? Don't waste this boss's time."

Seeing that the boss was a straightforward person, Li Jain didn't waste time with him and put the basket down before him with lots of herbs inside. "Here they are."

The boss couldn't believe his eyes and rushed over to take a look. There were ten kinds of herbs and each kind had twenty herbs. Not to mention how fresh they were. Even those cultivators that specialize in medicine plants, he had never seen such good quality from them. "How much are you selling them? The price is negotiable."

Li Jain saw that the boss was willing and smiled: "The boss has been doing business for many years. I believe that he won't take disadvantage of me." He didn't want to name a price that was too high or too low.

The fat boss was pleased by Li Jain's words and laughed a few times. "I can pay two thousand gold coins for the ginseng and other five common herbs. As for the blue moon grass, black grass, and maple flower, I'll give five thousand mid-grade spirit stones for them. Brother, this is a very reasonable price. We can still discuss it if you're not satisfied. 

As for them Cultivators, silver and gold coins are nothing to them. Spirit stones are the main currency. spirit stones can help with lots of things from cultivation to array formation. 

Li Jain thought for a moment, if spirit stones are the same as the spirit stones in his previous world, then he won't have to worry about the spiritual energy in the magic space. Also, it'll be good to build a good relationship with the boss so they could have long term business. "I'll take what the boss said. There's nothing to discuss."

Seeing Li Jain being modest, boss Wu was more pleased with him. He nodded and settled the bill. "Brother, don't forget to come anytime you have herbs. Can you tell me your name? Just call me boss Wu, everyone knows me in this town."

Li Jain was also straight forward: "Okay boss Wu, my surname is Li, Just call me Li Jain."

"Brother Li Jain, it was nice doing business with you." 

They shake hands.

"Oh right, Boss Wu. Do you know any available shops on the street that I can buy?"

Boss Wu robs his chin thoughtfully; "It all depends on what you want to sell."

Li Jain thought for a moment and said, "I want to use it as a restaurant."

"Humm, I don't know if that place is suitable. There's only one shop, but it's a little far from the street. The price is also cheap since no one is willing to take it. You should come back in a week, and I'll take you there."

"You have my thanks, Boss Wu."

 After saying a few more words, Li Jain left and went to buy other stuff. He cashes out two hundred gold coins and gets two thousand silver coins.

A gold coin can be exchanged for ten silver coins, and one silver coin can be exchanged for ten copper coins. Li Jain felt that two thousand gold should be a lot of money.

Li Jain thought about it and went to the restaurant where Li Cheng and Li Zhang worked. When the attendant saw him, he thought Li Jain was there to borrow money again and didn't give him a good face. Although his children were hard working, they were still small and couldn't do heavy work.

"What are you doing here?" The attendant asked arrogantly.

Li Jain frowned at the attendant for being disrespectful. But after thinking about what the original owner did, he found it reasonable. "I'm here to see boss Lan and redeem my children."

The attendant was surprised, but he didn't believe it. Li Jain credited five hundred gold coins from the boss. Five hundred gold coins doesn't seem much to a wealthy family but an ordinary family would be set for a few years with that amount. Not to mention how poor Li Jain was. Even though he was doubtful, the attendant took Li Jain to the guest room.

While passing, Li Jain saw the restaurant business was quite good. Although it was still morning hour, the place was packed with people coming and going. This shows how good the food here was.

"Wait here a moment." The attendant said and left the guest room to invite his boss.

Li Jain looked around the room, it was simple with two wooden chairs and one wooden table. There was a landscape painting on the wall, and the floor was very clean. 

Li Jain sat in the chair and waited. Five minutes later, A middle aged man came in. This person is Boss Lan, the owner of this restaurant. 

"Hello, boss Lan." Li Jain got up and greeted.

"When I heard you came to redeem the little ones, I couldn't believe it. But I'm glad you came. Young people need to know the importance of family and take care of each other." Boss Lan said and sat on the opposite side of the table.

"Thanks boss Lan, I'll keep it in mind."

"So have you brought my money? Because of your situation, I decided not to add interest."

"Thanks. I brought your money but I also have a business that you'll be interested in." 

"Oh, tell me about it." Boss Lan support his head with his one hand and look at Li Jain with interest.

"It's a side dish. I can guarantee that no restaurant in this town has that dish. It's called Bubble Potatoes." Li Jain said lightly, not bother by Boss Lan inquiring glaze.

"Okay?..." Boss Lan reach out his hands, wanting to see the recipe.

Li Jain didn't plan to sell a dish so he didn't write down the recipes. Now he was in an awkward situation. "Can you lend me your kitchen for a few minutes? If I waste your ingredients, I'll pay for them."

"Oh, I didn't know that young master Jain can cook."

"Just call me Li Jain, I'm not a young master." Li Jain rubs the back of his head embarrassedly

Boss Lan looks at him and laughs a few times. "Follow me."

Li Jain follows boss Lan to the kitchen. The chef was busy preparing food.

"Make space for Mr. Jain, to prepare the new recipe he brought."

When the chefs head it they quickly clean up the stove that wasn't occupied. 

"Mr. Jain, what ingredients would you need?"

"Potatoes, oil, rice flour, cornstarch and salt."

"Do we have those ingredients?"

"We don't have potatoes since there are not many dishes that require it. We have regular starch but no cornstarch. We have the rest of the ingredients."

Boss Lan turned to Li Jain, "What do you think, Mr Lan?"

"It's alright, luckily, I have some potatoes I got from the mountain."

When everything was ready? The chefs that weren't busy and Boss Lan watched Li Jain as he prepared his Bubble Potatoes.
