Late at night, Li Jain was busy in the kitchen. All the ingredients for the bloodline awakening potion was ready, the only thing left was to brew it. There were bottles and spiritual herbs scattered on the table. He measures and divides the herbs into different portions before boiling them in the cauldron. After several minutes, he took the cauldron and poured in a generous amount of the dark golden liquid. This golden liquid is the enchantment potion he'd once brewed.
He uses his soul force to move around the herbs, slowly turning it into liquid while controlling the heat perfectly. Then he begins to run his soul force through the inside of the cauldron to separate the impurities from the medicine.
An hour later, A very thick medicine liquid was releasing a strong medicinal aroma, it seemed to be taking shape. A clear liquid was being created. After another fifteen minutes, Li Jain poured all the contents of the cauldron away, leaving it empty. Then he poured out another pot full of the potion, adding extra herbs and water to make the last one.
Finally, he used some more soul force to stir the final concoction until everything was just right, at that point, he stopped. His body shivered slightly from the fatigue as he sat down at the table with a tired look on his face.
Li Jain sighed, he was still too weak.
….
The next morning:
Everyone woke up and did their usual task before training began with yawning and groans that echoed in the large backyard.
A light mist hung over everything from the dew dripping off a few trees, to the grass underneath the shade of the oak tree. It was still early when a couple of birds hopped out to fly away and take advantage of all of nature's free time.
The sun was just beginning to rise, making it look like a warm yellow orb in the early sky and painting the ground below it a golden hue. Birds chirped cheerfully as they flew overhead.
At breakfast time, several people were already sitting around the table waiting for their breakfast to be served. But after waiting for almost an hour with no food being handed out, one by one they started to get restless and impatient. There was no movement from the kitchen. No one could hear the clinking of dishes, the shuffling of pans, or the sounds of pots boiling over. There was only the sound of hissing steam and the quiet ticking of the clock.
What's going on this morning? They thought.
There was a moment of silence before the kitchen door was pushed open with loud bangs and everyone went in to investigate.
They saw Li Juanxin sitting on his small wooden chair, eating his breakfast silently. His small face was full of smiles as he ate.
Jing Xuan couldn't stand his hungry stomach anymore and pound on the breakfast; but for some reason, Li Juanxin was much faster and took the bowlcalmly
Li Juanxin looked at him and smiled again: "Don't worry, you won't starve to death if you didn't eat breakfast this morning. That's what daddy said."
The words came out smoothly, almost like he had rehearsed them many times.
"Daddy said?! You mean father?!" Jing Xuan asked furiously. "Is this some kind of joke!?"
"Boy, you need to make do with hunger once in a while. Don't see a pile of gold and forget the taste of hunger," Li Juanxin said calmly with another smile that made Jing Xuan want to throw up.
He used to like Xin Xin who had a sweet innocent smile. But at this moment, Jing Xuan didn't think that smile was innocent anymore. It was creeping his belly out.
"Juanxin, where did daddy go?" Li Cheng asked.
"He'll be back shortly," Li Juanxin replied. "Dad said I should watch you guys and make sure you didn't consume anything before he gets back. So I thought, I should eat quickly lest you get tempted. But I didn't expect you to come so soon." Although he said so, he wasn't in a hurry and ate slowly, enjoying every bite.
Li Cheng's decided not to bother with him. He knew his father must have a reason for his actions.
...
Their attention was drawn back to the sound outside, Li Jain was back.
"Everyone is here, good. The potion for bloodline awakening is ready, but the process will be painful without proper preparation. Which is why you don't need to consume any food." Said Li Jain
The children look at each other in understanding before nodding in consent. "We can manage it!" They replied with vigor.
Li Jain nodded at them with a satisfied smile. "Who wants to be first?"
"I'll go first." Jingxuan quickly raised his hand. He can't miss this opportunity to leave a good impression.
"Okay," Li Jain took out the tub and filled it with hot water and added the potion in it. "Get in."
"Yeah!" Jing Xuan happily took off his clothes and got in the tub.
The moment he sat in the medicine bath, the hot scalding liquid traveled across his body. Although the it was scalding hot, he didn't feel any pain. Jing Xuan let out a comfortable groan.
Suddenly, his body started to hurt! He gasped sharply and tried desperately to move away from the painful burning sensation spreading throughout his whole body. It felt like his entire body was submerged in a boiling lava pit, causing excruciating heat and pressure on his limbs.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" Jing Xuan screamed as he writhed in the medicine, trying to get out of the tub and escape his horrible fate.
All this happened within a few minutes, but to Jing Xuan, it felt like he was going insane.
The others were taken aback by the screamed
Li Jain went forward and pressed Jing Xuan back in the medicine. He had expected this outcome. "This is what will happen when you awaken without much preparation." Li Jain's face turned sour. He then continued with a stern voice, "Don't be scared. The pain will pass."
Jing Xuan could only sob and moan as he felt as if his skin was being peeled off. As he tried frantically to get out of the bath to try to relieve the unbearable torment, but failed.
He looked at Li Jain with tears streaming down his face and said shakily, "Is this how you awakened people? Why didn't you tell me it will hurt this much?"
'I told you." Li Jain thought. He was a little guilty and embarrassed by the situation.
What had he expected from a seven years old boy? That he would be able to comprehend everything immediately?
"Drink this." He took out a transparent bottle with red liquid inside of it and passed it to Jing Xuan. He then quickly added some herbs into the concoction.
After taking a deep breath, Jing Xuan downed the liquid, causing the flames in his chest to grow stronger. Li Jain could see Jing Xuan's eyes turning red for a fraction of a second before the flames disappeared. With his vision cleared from the tears.
Jing Xuan felt comfortable after drinking the element potion. It was as if his body and spirit had been filled with a certain type of energy that could not be put into words, but it felt good to have it in there. Jing Xuan felt refreshed.
"Whoa! brother Xuan is burning!" Juanxin open his eyes wide and pointed at Jing Xuan with trembling hands.
The others were startled too by the sight of flame coming out of Jing Xuan's skin, which looked like a red flame that was burning brightly. They stared in horror at Jing Xuan.
"Fire? Where is it?" Jing Xuan asked puzzledly. When he saw everyone staring at him frozen, he had a bad feeling. He lowered his head slowly and saw the fire was coming from his body.
He yelled out, panic evident in his voice and jumped out of the tub. "Fire, fire fire, put out the fire. I'm going to be burned to death." Jing Xuan was so frightened he didn't know where to run.
"Xiao Xuan stop, you won't burn. You've awakened." Li Jain called out helplessly.
"Hahahahahahahaha." Li Zhang laughed so hard when he saw Jing Xuan running around like a mad man.
