Chapter 28: I'm Proud to Sell Lamb

Yang Chen's remarkable performance caught the attention of all the employees at the Yu Lei International headquarters. Many female colleagues began to view this knowledgeable newcomer as a topic of discussion during their breaks. Even before officially starting work, Yang Chen had become known to the majority of the staff.

After signing the probationary contract on the spot, Yang Chen was led by Mo Qianni into the public relations department, located on the 18th floor, which occupied the entire floor.

As they entered the office area, many people stood up and applauded to welcome Yang Chen. After all, the majority of the employees were women, and they were delighted to have a new male colleague joining their ranks.

Mo Qianni had Yang Chen give a brief introduction before leading him into her office as the department head.

The office was simple, with only a few carefully arranged pots of orchids as decoration. The tidy desk, along with various forms and schedule markers on the wall, indicated that the owner possessed good work ethics and an efficient demeanor.

Yang Chen had a favorable opinion of his new boss. Although this woman exuded an intellectual beauty that was enticing, it was her confidence and wisdom that impressed him the most. She didn't elicit any disrespectful thoughts, and it was evident that merely being attractive wasn't enough for someone so young to rise to such a high position in a listed company.

"Please have a seat. Would you like something to drink?" Mo Qianni smiled warmly.

"No, thank you. I'm not thirsty," Yang Chen shook his head.

Mo Qianni smiled and shook her head at him, then went to the water dispenser to pour him a glass of water. "When I asked if you wanted something to drink, it wasn't just to quench your thirst. It was a way of indicating that I wanted to have a proper conversation with you. By saying you're not thirsty, it's like refusing to sit down and talk with me. In the future, you'll be a member of our company's public relations department, and these subtle hints shouldn't be overlooked."

Yang Chen felt a bit conflicted. He was being put in his place by his boss as soon as he joined the company, and he smiled helplessly. "Well... Miss Mo, I'm a rough person. I can handle running errands, but I'm not good at these business discussions."

"I don't believe that a man who is fluent in Italian, German, and can instantly recognize the handiwork of an Italian couturier from a pure artisanal fashion workshop can be considered a so-called rough person," Mo Qianni's bright and beautiful eyes gazed directly at Yang Chen. She leaned against the office desk, her posture graceful and elegant.

"Well..." Yang Chen was powerless to refute Mo Qianni's sharp words. He simply shrugged and said, "Miss Mo, whether you believe it or not, I'm just here looking for a job. In fact, I'm not even quite sure what public relations entails. Of course, now that I've signed the contract, I'll do my best. I'm just being honest."

Observing Yang Chen's expression, Mo Qianni didn't sense any deception. She changed the topic and said, "I just reviewed your materials. You provided very little, only a master's degree in marketing management from Harvard University. However, among all the applicants, you were the only one with a master's degree from an Ivy League school in the United States, which is why you were nominated for the final assessment. It seems we haven't made a mistake; at the very least, you possess excellent proficiency in foreign languages and fashion."

"Luck, it's all luck," Yang Chen replied, listening to his beautiful boss firing off her words like a volley of bullets. Even if he were facing a barrage of bullets, he wouldn't furrow his brow. Suddenly, he felt a bit guilty.

Mo Qianni appeared dissatisfied with Yang Chen's shallow response. After sitting at her own desk in silence for a while, she inquired, "Yang Chen, if you claim not to understand the work of public relations, why did you apply?"

"To tell the truth?"

"Do you think I want to hear lies?"

"Well, I thought you might prefer to hear lies. I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to handle the truth," Yang Chen hesitated, feeling somewhat embarrassed to speak.

"The truth, I want to hear the truth," Mo Qianni became a bit annoyed. This new employee showed no reverence towards his superior.

Yang Chen took a deep breath and said, "Alright, the main reason I applied is because my wife wanted me to find a decent office job."

"Your wife wanted you to find a decent job?" Mo Qianni felt like she was going to faint. Furrowing her eyebrows, she asked, "What kind of job did you have before?"

"Um... I sold lamb skewers. I was at the market in the west district. I don't know if you've ever seen me there. I've been running the stall for almost half a year," Yang Chen replied with a somewhat honest and hearty smile.

Mo Qianni truly felt like she was going crazy. Selling lamb skewers?! The only qualified employee carefully selected from a group of elites turned out to be a lamb skewer seller?!

"I don't think this is a joke, Yang Chen. I hope you're not trying to fool me because you would only be fooling yourself," Mo Qianni tried to maintain a calm and composed tone.

Yang Chen was a bit confused upon hearing this. How was this considered fooling? So he adopted a serious expression and said, "Miss Mo, you can look down on my profession, but you shouldn't look down on my character. Even though I sell lamb skewers, I have no reason to joke about my occupation. I sell lamb, and I'm proud of it!"

Mo Qianni's delicate face turned pale, and through gritted teeth, she said, "And you still claim it's not a joke!? A Harvard University graduate with a master's degree, fluent in multiple foreign languages, and capable of recognizing the origins of Italian handmade products is a lamb skewer seller!? Then what about the other applicants, the other people in society? Are they all vegetable vendors!?"

Unexpectedly, after a moment of contemplation, Yang Chen actually started to think seriously. He lowered his head, pondered for a moment, and replied, "Miss Mo, I don't know if they've ever sold vegetables, but you can ask them."

"You... you..." Mo Qianni felt her head spinning. How did this creature end up with a brain? Is he really a human being from Earth!?

Seeing that his new boss suddenly became flushed with anger, her ample chest heaving, Yang Chen knew he had caused trouble. He hadn't even officially started working and already managed to upset his boss. But Yang Chen didn't know what to do. If he told lies, she wouldn't listen, and if he told the truth, she would get angry. What was he supposed to do? So he could only grit his teeth and remain silent.

Mo Qianni was also a formidable woman. Although she was infuriated, she quickly managed to regain her composure. However, her gaze towards Yang Chen was no longer as friendly as before. Clearly, she regarded Yang Chen as a playboy who was seeking to amuse himself. Thinking of this, Mo Qianni sneered and said, "Alright, I won't say much to you. Your office seat is in the third row outside, on the far right. It has been cleared for you, and someone will be there to assign you work. You can leave now."

"Oh, thank you, Miss Mo. Then I'll go now," Yang Chen felt a sense of relief. Just as he was about to stand up, he suddenly remembered something. He turned around, picked up the glass of water on the desk that he hadn't drunk yet, tilted his head back, and gulped it down, wiping his mouth with his sleeve before walking out of the office.

Upon witnessing this scene, Mo Qianni's eyebrows furrowed again, feeling unwilling to look at Yang Chen any longer. However, the thought of having already signed the contract and the fact that terminating Yang Chen's employment early would require significant compensation made her realize that such a decision would require the approval of the CEO. After all, even during the probationary period, Yang Chen was considered a headquarters staff member, and the management of the headquarters and branch offices didn't start from the same point.

After giving it some thought, Mo Qianni decided to make a phone call directly...

"Hello." The voice of a woman on the other end of the line was fresh and gentle.

Mo Qianni hesitated for a moment but ultimately spoke up, "CEO, I would like to terminate the probationary male PR employee we hired today. He has serious attitude, integrity, and capability issues. There are many specific reasons, and I hope to obtain your approval."

The woman addressed as CEO remained silent for a while before responding, "You have always been cautious in your work. Since you've already signed the contract, why do you want to change your mind immediately? Send me his information, and after I review it, we can make a decision."

"Understood, CEO." After hanging up the phone, Mo Qianni sighed with some helplessness. She then opened the company's database and used the internal network to send Yang Chen's information to the CEO's office.
