Chapter 39

The bundle that was in Noelani’s arms turned out to be a small kitten, smokey grey in color. It had blue eyes that sparkled with curiosity as it looked up at Felicia, who was at a loss for words.

“Well don’t just stand there,” Noelani said. “Hold your new fur baby.” She placed the kitten in Felicia’s arms. “It’s a boy, and the runt of the litter, poor thing. The guy that I got him from was about to dump him off at the shelter because no one wanted him. I thought that he would be perfect for you.”

“I-I don’t know what to say.” Felicia gazed down at the tiny creature, who had already fallen asleep in her arms.

“We’re not trying to replace Shadow.” Brian piped up. “Not by any means. But we’ve all noticed how lonely you’ve been, even surrounded by us.”

“You said that this was Sebastian’s idea?”

Noelani nodded her head. “The rest of us thought that it might be too soon to get you another pet, but Sebastian was convinced that it was just the thing that you needed.”
