Gui Zixiao: The Beginning

The Chinese teacher felt something was wrong. Why was his colleague holding Xia Yu's test paper?

He glanced at the test paper:

Taking a deep breath, the Chinese teacher picked up the test paper and checked it carefully. The score had not been calculated incorrectly, and there were no mistakes in the questions he examined. It really was 140 points!

It should be noted that the top Chinese score in the provincial college entrance examination is usually around 130 points!

This was ten points higher than the top college entrance examination score!

Moreover, Xia Yu's math score had already reached the level of the top college entrance examination...

Putting down the test paper, the Chinese teacher looked at the four colleagues surrounding him: "How many points did Xia Yu score in history?"

The four teachers shook their heads, indicating that the history scores hadn't been calculated yet.

"Why don't we go have a look?" one of the teachers suggested.

His proposal met with unanimous agreement.

The five of them went to the history office and stopped the history teacher who was about to go for lunch.

"What are you doing!" The history teacher looked at the five approaching people with a bit of fear.

He suspected that it might have been because he had taken the Chinese teacher's Chilu Chun tea without permission.

It's just a bit of tea; was it really that serious?

With a pang of pain in his heart, the history teacher took out a key, unlocked the drawer, and took out his own Yuguanyin tea: "One cup per person, no cheating!"

"Who wants your tea!" The five people claimed that they didn't come for the tea.

"Then what are you doing here?" The history teacher tried to take back the tea canister, but the Chinese teacher held his hand.

"Finish the work first, and then drink tea." The Chinese teacher put the tea canister out of the history teacher's reach and, along with his four colleagues, surrounded him.

Their serious expressions made the history teacher a little nervous.

What could be more important than drinking tea?

The history teacher looked around the empty office and regretted not leaving earlier.

"Have you finished marking the history test papers?" the Chinese teacher asked.

"No, isn't the deadline tomorrow? There's still plenty of time!" The history teacher was a bit of a procrastinator.

"Why are you so slow? We've finished marking the last Chinese test paper!"

The history teacher had an idea, so they came to hurry him to mark the test papers?

He cautiously said, "How about I mark them after lunch?"

"Forget lunch, finish marking the test papers first." The Chinese teacher and his colleagues found the test papers from a nearby table and flipped through them.

They quickly found Xia Yu's test paper, put it on top of a stack, and urged the history teacher to start working.

Feeling the gaze of the five people behind him, the history teacher holding the red pen felt a bit uneasy.

He suppressed his anxiety and began to correct the test paper.

The first question was correct. The second question was correct. All the multiple-choice questions were correct.

But the first question below was wrong.

The moment he put down the wrong mark, the history teacher heard five sighs from behind.

This scared the history teacher so much that he almost dropped his pen.

What did their sighs mean? Was he not supposed to mark the answers wrong? Were they trying to force him to manipulate the student's score?

The history teacher glanced at the student's name again. Wasn't this the student who was very good at playing the guzheng? He already had a recommendation from Hua University, so what was the point in manipulating his score?

Was it just to make the school look better when visitors came in the future?

Was this the principal's instructions?

Just as the history teacher was considering whether or not to tamper with the integrity, the Chinese teacher pointed to a fill-in-the-blank question behind him: "This is also wrong."

Did they actually come to correct mistakes? Weren't they here for something shady?

What do you want to do then?

The history teacher was at a loss, and he didn't dare to ask either.

He had a good relationship with the Chinese teacher, but he had no interactions with the other four teachers. When these four strangers suddenly showed up, he became a bit nervous and fearful of being beaten up.

After nervously correcting the last question, the history teacher didn't even have time to calculate the score before the test paper was snatched by the Chinese teacher.

The five teachers found an empty spot and calculated the score together.

Ninety-nine points.

They sighed; this score was a bit low. Although the total points for history were only 120, the top scorers in the college entrance examination usually got 110 or above.

They recalculated Xia Yu's total score: 99140148387.

In this number, there are still 40 points missing for the additional question. Generally speaking, it's not a big problem to get more than 35 points in the additional question, and with Xia Yu's 140 points in Chinese, it's not surprising to get a perfect score.

By this calculation, the minimum score should be at least 420 points.

They looked at each other and drew a breath of cold air.

Last year's top scorer in the humanities in the province had exactly 420 points!

And Xia Yu's 420 points were just a conservative estimate!

If this score appeared in the famous No. 3 Middle School, known for its high rate of university enrollment, it would be considered normal; last year's top scorer in humanities was from No. 3 Middle School.

However, they were from an ordinary school, No. 1 Middle School!

The five teachers were silent for a while, and one of them said: "After all, this is our own test paper, the difficulty is not the same as the actual college entrance examination."

"But it was made based on last year's college entrance examination!"

"It is precisely because it was based on previous college entrance examinations that the students are somewhat familiar with the questions."

"Do you believe what you're saying? We didn't copy the question types, and the main force of making the papers was from No. 3 Middle School!"

The Chinese teacher stopped the arguments of his four colleagues and said: "No matter what, this proves that he has the qualifications to compete for this year's top scorer in the province."

The other four teachers stopped talking. They thought the same.

Their breaths started to become a bit rapid.

The provincial top scorer honor was a significant one! The news report would include the name of the top scorer's school, which was heavyweight publicity!

"Let's go find the principal." Holding the test paper, the five teachers hurriedly left the office.

The history teacher was left alone, sitting at his desk with a bewildered face.

The table they had gathered around was a bit far from him, and he was somewhat hard of hearing due to his age, so he couldn't hear what they were talking about clearly.

In his view, the five teachers suddenly rushed into the office to threaten him to correct the test paper, and then they muttered some unknown things before hurriedly leaving.

He looked at the remaining test papers.

So, do I still need to correct the rest?

Thinking of the five teachers crowding behind him, the history teacher picked up his red pen.

In the afternoon, the first class was supposed to be an art class, but before the students went to the art classroom, the Chinese teacher stopped them.

"Today, the art teacher is feeling unwell, so we are changing this class to Chinese class."

Despondent sighs rose from the students below the podium.

Pretending not to hear, the Chinese teacher asked two students to distribute the test papers.

Gui Zixiao quickly received her test paper.

He prayed in the same way as he did in the morning and opened the test paper to take a look.

"Hahaha, 110!" Gui Zixiao was proud of himself.

This score could already be considered quite good. Together with his math score, he had a total of 225 points. Adding the scores for history and additional questions, he could be accepted into a second-tier university, or even have a chance at a first-tier one.

However, Gui Zixiao didn't think that far ahead. He was just happy with his 110 points in language arts.

He looked at Xia Yu, with a smile forming at the corner of his mouth.

He had lied earlier, saying that his reading comprehension was a mess, but in reality, he only lost nine points out of a total of thirty-nine points for the modern literary reading section.

This was because he had done two of the modern literary reading passages before, which were from practice tests at other schools; the questions were quite similar.

As for deceiving Xia Yu, Gui Zixiao had no psychological pressure. Pretending to be bad, and then getting high scores, was a basic operation for top students.

He was already eager to see Xia Yu's shocked and surprised expression when he found out that Gui Zixiao only lost nine points in the modern literary reading section.

"Xia Yu, your test paper," the student distributing the papers came in front of Xia Yu.

Gui Zixiao snatched the test paper immediately: "Let me take a look."

Flipping to the first page, he saw the total score:

He closed the test paper, gave the score a two-second escape time, and then unfolded the test paper again.

The bright red 140 was still there.

Flipping to Xia Yu's modern literary reading section, Gui Zixiao glanced at his deducted points.

Out of the three modern literary readings and nine questions, only the last one had two points deducted.

Looking at his own 9 and Xia Yu's 2, Gui Zixiao's mentality completely collapsed.

Throwing Xia Yu's test paper on his desk, Gui Zixiao looked at Xia Yu, aggrieved:

"Why are you like this!"
