Ethan slowly walked his way home. It had been a stressful day at work, so he took measures to inform his squad members that he had killed Belle and that Belle showed signs of being a spatial monster, in order to prevent any future issues. Creak! He slowly pushed his door open, feeling tired. Something felt amiss, and Ethan immediately thought to himself as he readied himself with barely noticeable electricity crackling out of his body, edging closer to the room door. Creak! Ethan slowly opened the room door to peer in but couldn't see anything due to the room being left dark.
If it were any other person, they might think their fiancee wanted to surprise or be romantic, but Ethan knew Lucy too well. She had a fear of dark places, especially when she was alone. Even if she wanted to surprise him, she wouldn't intentionally turn off the lights when she knew she was the only one home.
Boom! Just as Ethan fully stepped into the room, a hand grabbed him. However, the owner of the hand, unaware that Ethan had coated himself with electricity, was thrown way back and hit the wall, causing it to cave in. Ethan had the power to emit electricity like an electric eel, but with quadruple the current. After flinging the first attacker away, another reached out to hold Ethan. Being seasoned in battling monsters, Ethan quickly ducked and stretched his hands forward, charging his power towards the head of the seemingly attacking man. The unexpected fast movement caught the man off guard, causing him to fall and convulse immediately.
Tud! Tud! Tud! Heavy footsteps echoed behind Ethan, prompting him to immediately roll without waiting for confirmation, then he sprang up and sent electricity directly towards the source of the footsteps. Boom! The electricity connected, but like the first two attackers, it seemed to have no effect on the man. Ethan noticed that the man had a diamond-like skin, which protected him from the impact of the electricity.
Flick! The sound of a power switch was heard as the lights were turned on. "I told you we should act like civilized citizens," a lady's voice was heard as Ethan looked to the side and saw a lady with red hair and eyes tinged with red, holding Lucy gently. The lady was alluring, with pale white skin and a dress intentionally exposing her cleavage. It was hard not to get lost in her presence for a moment. "I am Vixen. As you can see, your fiancee is in really good hands," the lady said, tracing Lucy's face with her finger.
"Don't you dare hurt her!" Ethan bellowed with anger, as the electric power he had been controlling flared up. "Why would I hurt her? Like I said, she is in really good hands. You just have to tell me about the boy you picked from Ethereal County," Vixen said. Her words calmed Ethan down, and the lightning dissipated. Although he didn't trust the group completely, he wanted to try since Lucy was still in their hands. Who knows, maybe they weren't all bad.
"Why are you all interested in the kid now?" Ethan asked, wanting to gather information while still engaging in conversation. "We all? How many people have come already? I thought we were going to be the first," Vixen replied. Ethan thought to himself, I guess more people will be coming. He found it suspicious when the higher-ups suddenly sent someone after a long period of time.
"The higher-ups from my workplace came looking for him early this morning," Ethan said, pausing for a bit. He realized that Vixen was the type who liked to slip out information to make others reveal something. He had also been wary of the diamond man since the beginning. "It's only right that they do. I mean, they are official bodies. So, what happened to the kid? Did you hand him over to your higher-ups?" Vixen asked.
"No, he was already dead before they came. I killed him," Ethan said firmly. He had made up his mind to keep Belle being alive a secret, no matter who asked him. Hearing Ethan's words, both the diamond man and Vixen seemed shocked. "You killed a spatial zone representative who is thought to be Divine rank?" Vixen asked. Ethan wondered what a spatial zone representative was, as he had never heard of such a thing before. Nevertheless, he replied, "Yeah, I did. He didn't put up a fight."
"He didn't put up a fight! What kind of monster would let humans kill him without putting up a fight?" Vixen exclaimed. Hearing Vixen classify Belle as a monster made Ethan really angry, but he tried to hold it in. To him, Belle was just a kid who deserved love. Confirming that Belle is Divine rank but still acted with him the way he did even softened his heart more.
"Sweetheart, for our baby, did he really kill the boy?" Ethan was called back to his senses by Vixen's words as he looked to see her gently caressing Lucy's hair.
Hearing her, Lucy, who was also deep in thought, finally snapped back. She had been thinking, feeling more guilty after hearing Belle is Divine rank. How many Divine ranks are in Emerald City? None. And Belle, who was a Divine rank and could kill them both, let himself die just because she was afraid of him, when he never did anything to her.
"Sweetheart," Vixen called. "He did," Lucy said, her eyes already red. She is the type that cries at any slight thing.
"I bet our work here is done. We won't like being at war with official bodies, so we will go now. I would like to have your electricity in me, though, but I bet our sweetheart would really mind. So bye," Vixen said with a smile as purple smog slowly spread out of her body, wrapping both the diamond man and the other two who were knocked out. Puff! The smog cleared, as none of them were there again. Everything seemed like an illusion.
Seeing them leave, Ethan quickly ran over to Lucy, inspecting her body, then pulling her into his embrace as she cried. "He was a good kid. I got afraid and made you kill him for nothing," Lucy said while sobbing.
"It is okay. I don't think Belle misunderstood you. Besides, most spatial zone monsters can respawn. Who knows, maybe he can," Ethan went around about hinting the possibility of Belle being alive to make Lucy feel better.
"Is that really possible?" Lucy asked with puppy eyes.
"Yes, it is," Ethan answered.
"I will go pray he respawns then," Lucy said, lightening up a bit.
"Okay," Ethan said before adding in his mind, if only gods really exist.
"I have to ask my brother to help with my promotion. It is time I leave this city. The closer to the headquarters, the better. The people that came so far is a bit reasonable. I can't say that for the rest that might be coming," Ethan kept thinking in his mind as he looked at Lucy.
