CHAPTER THREE

IT'S A GIRL

They entered their car immediately they exited the mayor's building. They drove off with Stacy very angry and in a bad mood. What is wrong with her? Abraham wondered.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes I am fine"

"You don't look okay to me"

"I will be fine"

"Why do you always get angry at the slightest mention of the Mayor?"

"It's nothing Abraham. Let's forget about it. I'm not the problem right now"

"You're to me" he murmured in an inaudible voice

"What?"

"Oh nothing"

It became silent. Not too comfortable of a silent. They said nothing to each other until they got to the office.

"Excuse me Miss David" someone called out

"Yes Amanda, anything?"

"Yes. Follow me" they followed her to the small room. She turns on the TV "this is the footage from the incident. It clearly shows its a girl who killed Mr William James. But the question is who? It's not clear at all. She made sure to cover up and she is very careful"

"So our person is a girl?"

"Yes definitely"

"She looks like someone at her early twenties" Abraham says observing the footage on the screen

"Exactly what I thought" Amanda agrees.

"Well that's a start" she moves towards the door "inform me if anything comes up" she said to Amanda before strodding out of the door. Abraham followed.

He is so handsome, Amanda thought.

Abraham strode up to Stacy.

"I don't know but I think we should question the kids of Mr William from his first wife side"

"Not a bad idea at all" she smiles at Abraham and his heart flutters "We will inform them" she nods to him and goes to her office. Abraham stood there in admiration. She smiled at herself when she saw the way he looks at her from the corner of her eyes.

The next day they went to Vivian's house. Knocking few times on the door, it swung open with a none happy Stephany

"Come in" she says to them. They walk in with her behind them. "Have a seat. What can I get you two?"

"Nothing" Stacy answers as they sat down. "Where are your siblings?"

"They will be down soon" few seconds, James jnr and his sister strode down from the staircase. They sat down looking at the two detectives in front of them

"How are you kids doing?" Abraham asked them, they muttered nothing. "I know it's hard for you guys but we are doing this for the best. Your father's killer needs to be brought to book. So I will be grateful if you guys can give us anything to help us solve this case" he concluded

"I don't know why someone would want Daddy dead. He is not a bad man" William James jnr said to the detectives

"Say what you know James" Lucy retorted at James with a harsh glare

"Why so?" Stacy asked Lucy with a peek interest.

"Because men cannot be trusted" Abraham is surprised at her statement even James. I guess men will always be men

"But he is your father"

"That doesn't exclude him" wow Stacy thought. Maybe all men are the same but then there's Abraham. She thinks otherwise about him.

"What do you know Lucy?" Stephany asked her sister before Stacy or Abraham could even say another word. How does she know what I want to ask her sister, they both thought to themselves.

"I know nothing, okay?! Just that I know for a fact that no one can be trusted. Dad is not an exception. If he was murdered by someone it means either he is doing something that we don't know or he has a rival but I think I will go with the later"

"Lucy!" James yelled at his sister

"What?! I'm just saying my mind"

"Well your mind always have something stupid to say"

"Do not insult me James" she warned threateningly. There's this fire in her eyes that Stacy couldn't decipher. What is she?

"Quit talking about Dad like that. Show him some respect Lucy" he is pissed by his sister's words "At least he deserves that from you and all of us" he tsks in anger

"Dad has always been there Lucy" Stephany added

"Not for me and Mom. He left us. He fucking left us!" With this she rushes upstairs.

"Please ignore that. She hasn't been in a good relationship with Dad ever since he left Mom. She loved him dearly. She was his favourite but things took another turn after Dad divorced Mom" Stephany explains to the detectives.

"So do you suspect anyone to have a hand in your father's death?" Abraham questions her

"None I can think of"

"What about you James?"

"None. His friends were all good. I don't think they could do it"

"Inform us if anything or anyone comes to mind" they stood up from the couch. "You guys have a good day and my regards to your Mom" they left the house.

Immediately they left, Stephany makes her way upstairs to Lucy's room

"What was all that for?"

"I told them my mind"

"You're trying to term daddy the bad one"

"Is he not?"

"Watch your mouth Lucy" James barks at her by the door

"What do you know Lucy?"

"I know nothing"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes Steph I'm very sure. I'm just angry at him and myself. He left me without saying goodbye or try to resolve things between us" she begins to sob. Stephany lowers herself and hugs her sister

"You will be fine Lu" she strokes her hair

"Lu you don't have to blame yourself. We all have to move on" James said to her tenderly. Lucy can be too much sometimes but he loves her dearly. He sees her as his baby sis even though she is elder to him. They hug each other. It's a beautiful site. One filled with love and family.

Back in the car, Stacy is driving today

"What do you think about Lucy's words" Abraham asks

"She's got a point. What if William James is giving out little or nothing to us? The man might have a past. Someone from his past might have done him this bad"

"I agree with you but one thing I don't agree with is when she said that men can't be trusted" Stacy chuckles at his statement

"But she's not wrong kind of"

"For me she is" now she laughs

"You should see your face right now" he looks at the mirror and joins her at laughing. He looks hilarious

"We need to go back to his past"

"Yes. It might give us a lead"

After the day's work, they went home. As always they went home exhausted from cracking their brains to get something, anything. Mr William James is not an ordinary rich man of DC. He knows something that no one knows. He did something. He's not letting out anything but they will force it out.

Abraham got home with Stacy on his mind. He laid down on the bed and thought how wonderful it do be to come home to her in his t-shirt and her shorts or better still nothing. It do be wonderful. Awesome and beautiful. He stood up. "Why do I think of her in this way" he asks himself. He pushed everything to the back of his mind and strode to the restroom. Someone needs a calming shower.

At the other hand Stacy keeps smiling to herself at the thought of him. He makes her smile. She is not a feminist but she is not the man type. At first she thought she was gay but it turns out she's not. She just doesn't bother herself about men and stuff. They are stress she thought. Not that she got anything to make her think otherwise from her Dad. 'He is wicked' she thought.

She goes to her kitchen and made herself some food to eat. It's hard to see working women cook these days. They depend on canned foods and takeouts. Stacy is the type that is in love with home made foods. Eating out is not the kind of thing she does. She only eats out maybe on a date or she just wants to.

Each of them retired to bed with the other in their minds but most especially the case. It's as hard as a diamond. Nothing is leading to anywhere. They are just moving in circles. No direction or lead. No suspect. Nothing. Who is this girl or lady or whoever. Stacy admits she hasn't seen something like this before. This murder to her is well structured, well planned and well executed. But she vows to get to the bottom of everything and this whole thing. She must. She has to. It's not like she's got another choice.
