Chapter 41: The Diamond Mountain

There are distinct advantages to being old. To having lived through the invention and development of the automobile. To being stronger and faster than a human being is capable of being. There are definite perks to the improved reflexes, the experience with driving, and, of course, the money to afford the right car.

In this case, these advantages were put heavily into play as Marian sped down 494 at almost double the 60 miles per hour speed limit, cutting back and forth between cars. There was the chance they’d get pulled over, but it was a risk Marian wasn’t really even considering.

Jonathan had Walter. Every second they were alone together was more risk than she wanted to take.

Harley was buckled securely into her seat, holding onto the handle above the door as if it would provide extra protection from the maddeningly dangerous way Marian was driving. She cut seemingly within inches of other cars, weaving back and forth as they drew closer and closer to home.
