Marian dropped to the floor, catching sight of the ignition of the gunpowder when Walter pulled the trigger by reflex, glad for her vampiric speed that allowed her to get completely out of the way before any of the pellets came out.
The blast was loud. The shot didn’t hit anyone, mostly shredding a chunk of the wall. But it was close enough to Adam that it made him jolt in surprise, breaking his concentration for a fraction of a second.
It was enough time for Jonathan to rush forward and slam his knife into Adam’s chest, puncturing his heart.
The only sounds Adam made were when the knives fell out of his hands, and he collapsed into a pile on the floor.
“Looks like I owe you a thank you, brother,” Jonathan said as he looked over at Walter. “That was getting rather tedious. Though I must ask - how did you manage?”
