Marian nearly knocked the front door off its frame when she got inside. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting to find. In her mind were just images of Walter in various stages of injury and death. She just kept thinking about being forced to spend eternity without her best friend, and felt like perhaps the universe had only given her Harley because it was going to take Walter away.
And she didn’t want to think about whether or not that would be a worthwhile trade. She knew how she felt about Harley, knew how much she loved the girl. But was it enough? Was it the same kind of love she had for Walter? Would their relationship last for hundreds of years? Or would Harley leave her some day, leaving her completely alone?
She knew Walter would never leave. She knew that he would be with her forever. So long as he survived, she would never lose him. She knew that much. But, as she rushed inside, she wasn’t otherwise sure what to expect.
