Chen Jie didn't expect to see her here. "What are you doing here?" he asked, frustration evident in his tone.

Chen Lin immediately sensed his irritation, but she gave no reaction. She simply answered, "Just visiting Grandpa." With a sigh, she added, "Even if it's Grandpa who wanted to speak with you, at least try not to upset him."

Chen Jie bristled, his voice sharp. "Do you think I want to upset him? What am I supposed to do if the topic he insists on discussing is enough for him to be angry?"

Chen Lin frowned, a twinge of concern crossing her face. She couldn't fathom what it was that could have gotten her grandfather so worked up.

"Wait for me, Lawyer Jin," Chen Jie said, his tone softening slightly. "I'll speak with my father first." With that, he stepped inside.

Chen Lin turned toward Aunt Xi, who had been silently observing the exchange. Sensing the younger woman's unease, Aunt Xi sighed, "They were still not done talking, Linlin."
