The Tower Has Fallen

Milan didn’t know for sure, but he still dragged Melba with him to the room where Corey was. He caught the scared woman, barely keeping up with the shaking of the ground. When the earth calmed down, he took the two women to leave the Hut. After all, the poorly constructed building might collapse on them. Outside, Milan saw how Owen was running toward them.

With a growl, he asked, “Were you too late? Please don’t confirm that I was right about the mine shafts. Is everyone doing okay?”

“What exploded wasn’t the mine shaft, but the central pump station of the aqueduct.” Owen helped Milan carry Corey’s weight. “The volunteers are putting up the fire.”

“Pump station? Where is that?” Milan asked, but he could already see the flames shooting up to the sky. It was almost midnight, and the sky was so dark that the tall pillar was casting a light on it. “It’s right next to the Clifford Estate.”
